Today’s fab feature, Lisa Entwisle is a motivated mommy of two. She is the creator of Babyweights, a deck of expertly devised exercises that helps mommies bounce back into shape after pregnancy. We just love how passionate she is about women’s health! Read more about her below:
Tell us a little about you:
I am what you term as a mumpreneur….or WAHM (work at home mum)… basically I wear many hats and change them at a moments notice! Home is Melbourne, Australia, beautiful cherubs are Amelia (age 9) and Oliver (age 6) and I am the Author and Director of babyweights – bond with your baby through exercise, which falls under my umbrella business Mummy and Millie (postnatal wellness). Having studied a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement and Health Promotion and had an extensive career, spanning over 17 years, in the health and fitness space, I have a genuine interest in the effect that pregnancy and mothering have on a woman’s body. My mission is to educate and empower mums with knowledge and tools to practice and maintain a healthy lifestyle (body and mind) and in turn build their self-worth as a woman and a mother. I am passionate about helping mums return to an active lifestyle in a fun, achievable and functional way and I truly believe ‘babyweights’ can assist with this process. I also love to cook healthy tasty food that even the kids love!
Where did you get the idea for babyweights?
As a mother of two, I completely understand the new challenges and priorities that come with motherhood. Finding the time and energy to exercise is certainly one of those challenges. Following my passion in postnatal health, I started a business (mummy and millie) in 2004, instructing postnatal mums and baby fitness classes and health coaching. While the benefits of these classes were obvious, some mothers found it difficult to commit to set class times due to the realities of motherhood. After 6 years of taking classes, I knew I needed to come up with a way of helping mums achieve their health and fitness goals in a fun and functional way without particular time constraints or time away from their baby. And in 2012 babyweights was born. babyweights is a set of expertly devised exercise flash cards, including 48 low impact ways you can work out with your baby, providing mums with both physical and emotional benefits. It offers upper body, middle body, lower body and stretching exercises for a well- rounded workout. Plus, they cater for all fitness levels. Babyweights allows mothers to get fit for motherhood and bond with their baby at the same time. No expensive gym memberships. No babysitting required. And no time away from baby needed.
One tip you would share with a new mom on staying healthy with a new baby?
I could write a whole blog article, maybe even 2 or 3 on this topic, so one tip feels inadequate.
Here goes…Nurture yourself with good clean food, move your body every day and remember to STOP and BREATH. Well that’s ONE sentence anyway!
One general mommy tip:
There are so many tips I would love to share but if I have to choose just one I would encourage mums to be truly authentic. If I could sneak in another I would say ’don’t sweat the small stuff’.
Biggest source of motivation:
I would have to say LOVE – love for myself, for my children, for others, for knowledge. By being motivated by love I am able to focus on what I want in life.
