This is the time of year that 90% of people are so done with winter. I know I am! Where I live, we don’t have the coldest and snowiest winters around, but we do get our fair share. Despite the few warm day teasers that have put me in the best mood, I’m reminded by the lingering cold and wet days, that winter isn’t quite ready to quit just yet. Since I can’t up and move out to Florida just yet, I’ve been doing a few things that get me in that spring state of mind, even with these last few cold weather days.
How I Get That Spring State of Mind in Late Winter
The spring state of mind – it’s carefree, focused and excited. I have so much energy during the spring and I always feel inspired. I’m sure it’s a combination of the warm weather and longer days, but I feel like everything in my life get’s a little bit better when spring arrives. So I’m channeling that energy into my actions now. First thing I love to do is organize!
Organize
After the holidays I started on a full blown organize and declutter of everything in my house. Spring cleaning come early. I not only wanted something to keep me busy through the cold days indoors, I wanted that fresh and focused feeling. I’m going into the next season trying to be more intentional about my wardrobe. Less impulse buys and less spending money of clothing items that aren’t made well and won’t last. Thanks to so many inspiring bloggers out there and my sweet sister-in-law Erica, I’m a new believer in the power of a well planned and invested wardrobe.

So, I cleaned my closet! I’m a closet hoarder by nature, some of the things I cleaned out, I had for years. I went through and organized everything by color, to make it easier to coordinate outfits and see what I have a lot of. I learned that I have a ton of pink and navy blue in my closet! There were a few things I couldn’t part with (like my jean jacket I’ve had since I was 17 and recently purchased a new one) so I moved them to a corner in the closet to evaluate over the year. I figure if I don’t wear them at all this year, I’m going to toss them at the end of it.
Shop
Nothing like doing a little shopping for the next season to get you excited. I can’t say that my shopping has been totally on point with keeping things intentional (baby steps y’all) because spring is my all time favorite season to shop for, but I’ve been trying! I knew I needed a spring jacket with a hood for rainy days, so I grabbed this little pink one from LOFT. I do have a lot of pink in my closet, but not a pink jacket! So, I didn’t feel one bit bad about adding this one in. What else I’m hunting:
A few new spring skirts:
I really want to find a pretty white skirt or a white t-shirt dress. I haven’t found one I love yet. It has to be an easy cotton fabric so it washes well against the possibility of stains from the boys, lol!
Pretty dresses:
I love to wear dresses in the spring and summer, especially to work and church. This one is coming in my next trunk and I’m really excited to try it!
Spring shoes:
Once I purchased those pink mules from Target, I fell in love and had to find another pair of neutral spring mules. I ordered this pair and am anxiously waiting for them to arrive! I was also gifted these Vionic wedges I’m wearing in this post, which are not only cute, but so comfortable! I love that they aren’t super bulky like a lot of espadrilles, the bulk doesn’t look the best on my nubby legs. These are perfect for me! Luckily my Tory Burch sandals from last year still look fabulous, so I don’t plan on buying any new sandals, but I do plan on purchasing a new pair of neutral pumps!
Jackets:
In the past I hoarded tops! If I’m shopping I’m most likely to buy a top. So, since my closet is overflowing with tops, I’m planning to add less this season and instead I added a few new jackets. The pink jacket above of course and also a new jean jacket to replace my beloved one of many years. I also grabbed a navy blazer for work! The tops I have been picking up have been comfortable and basic, in light spring colors!
Plan
I’ve been planning not only my wardrobe, but also our spring activities and vacations. Nothing like some anticipation to bring on some excitement! We’re all ready for spring baseball (Mr. Maddox’s first year on junior league) and also in serious need of more swimming lessons (on my list to sign up). We’re also planning a fun patio project for the house! I’m so excited to have an outdoor space. We’ve also booked our summer vacation! So not only am I really excited about all the fun of spring and summer, my mind is at ease having it all planned and scheduled out.
Get Outside
Last but certainly not least, we’ve been getting outside more. Erica challenge herself in January to get outside every day, even in the cold, and I was really inspired. Aside from the beautiful days we’ve had recently, we’ve just been bundling up and taking on the playground, no matter the weather. Fresh air is fresh air, even if it’s cold!
I’m counting the days, but spring will be here before we know it! The days are already lasting longer and the time will change in just a few weeks! Come March 20th, I’ll be fully amped and ready, in that spring state of mind. How do you brighten those last few days of winter?
