Shopping The Lilly Pulitzer Warehouse Sale & Oh, Hey Girl! Link-Up

This week we are featuring Scarlett of “& Don’t Call Me Sugar” as she tells us all about how to navigate the Lilly Pulitzer Warehouse Sale!

Calling All Lilly Lovers!!!

What summer wardrobe is complete without those signature prints in bold bright color combinations depicting those classic ‘preppy’ icons including sailboats, seashells, and flamingos??? Now whether you’re more of a “Scuba To Cuba” kind of girl or a die-hard “Red Right Return” enthusiast, the only thing that could further fuel one’s love for Lilly, is getting it on SALE!!! Yes it’s true, you may finally be able to purchase your very own signature LP shift dress, without having to go into debt {or maybe just without having to spend that week’s grocery money}! Luckily your opportunity comes annually, over the course of 3 days, during the Lilly Pulitzer warehouse sale! Now, be forewarned ladies, this sale is not intended for novice shoppers, with minimal Black Friday shopping experience, praying to walk away with one or two ‘notorious’ LP Popovers. Now ladies, if you hope to keep your Palazzo pants neatly pressed, aviators (or wayfarers) unscratched, and budget in check, then keep in mind these 5 simple tips and tricks, if planning to attend next year’s event!!!

Tip #1: Less is More
Now this tip may not necessarily apply to the amount of Lilly you purchase, BUT it does apply to what you decide to bring along for all those ‘just in case’ moments. Unless you plan on joining the elite club of LP admirers who commit to camping out (overnight) days prior to the sale, please do yourself and your fellow shoppers a favor and leave your folding chairs, towels, and anything inflatable at home! (Disclosure: Yes ladies, there are some who CAMP OUT for this event…)

Trick: If you don’t already own one, consider purchasing a crossbody bag. This doesn’t need to be a ‘designer’ purchase, just something relatively versatile and capable of holding necessities such as your wallet and phone. LEAVE THOSE BULKY BAGS AT HOME!!! Also, if you plan on having to wait outside, it’s suggested to bring a small compact umbrella to ensure you aren’t caught in any occasional shower! Above all else, SHOP LIGHT!

Tip #2: Timing Isn’t Everything
Keep in mind this sale lasts for 3 days, and therefore you will have ample opportunities to shop over the course of the event. This means, you don’t have to commit to camping out unless you truly feel it would benefit your overall shopping experience (think long and hard about this!) Also, in case you were wondering, YES! THEY RESTOCK DAILY! (and continuously throughout the sale)

Trick: If you’re concerned about missing out on the anticipated ‘Seconds’ or ‘Samples’ selection, then maybe this is your cue to plan on attending the sale on Day 1! If not, then you still have a chance at snagging a shift dress or two, along with all of the items that have been restocked. My advice, don’t fret that you experienced this LP Craze in later days, there will be Lilly galore (almost to an overwhelming extent!!!) As a helpful hint: attending during Day 2 and Day 3 may save you the hassle of waiting an excessive amount of time in line, and who wouldn’t want more shopping time???

Tip #3: Keep Calm & Stay Classy
My hope is this tip speaks for itself!!! Yes, it’s true this is an exhilarating experience, and it may be a challenge to contain your excitement…but please KEEP CALM. From experience, tensions run high amongst the community of the Lilly Loving ladies during the sale, and a select few may forget their manners…excuse them. Don’t be those ladies, and please choose to STAY CLASSY.

Trick: Abide by the waiver, yes the waiver. Now this ‘waiver’ serves more to elaborate on the general guidelines or rules of the sale, but still it’s in your best interest to at least be courteous to those LP employees/volunteers working the event. Please, remain respectful to the Print Patrol, especially as they are wheeling in restocked racks of those coveted prints! Again, you will witness those who almost stalk, and then (almost physically) POUNCE on newly revealed racks. Once again, excuse them and just #stayclassy.

Tip #4: Know Your Sizes & Your Budget
One could probably consider these to be 2 of the most essential tips!!! First, although this is a sale, you must consider all the original retail prices of these items ($$$). For those familiar with purchasing LP at retail, then such sale prices at up to 70% off may seem like a legit ‘steal’. For others, these ‘sale prices’ may still seem a bit pricey. Second, if you have never owned or possibly even worn a Lilly item, then you REALLY need to consider taking the time to determine you appropriate size, and do so in a number of items from bottoms, tops, and dresses!

Trick: Fortunately, LP makes finding your size relatively easy. When shopping the LP website, you have the option to Find Your True Fit using the conveniently located link above the size selections. An always-fun alternative would be to visit your local LP store and enjoy the time trying on the season’s items, which ultimately gives you your most accurate size!

**Dressing Room Disclosure: This is not your typical fitting room ladies…no individual stalls…no curtains…no privacy (apart from being secluded from the rest of the ongoing sale). Be prepared for walls lined with mirrors, and chairs in front of each. You may roughly have about 6in between you and your neighboring shopper. Above all else, PLEASE wear decent (preferably not revealing) under garments. Spandex makes things so much simpler!

Tip #5: Love Lilly
This event is truly an experience! Between the DJ, the endless amount of caffeine ingested, and the shared almost constant gossip between Lilly Lovers anxiously waiting their turn to shop the collection of sale priced prints, it’s unforgettable. Despite dreading the four hour drive home, especially after two straight days of shopping, one can’t help but feel a hint of excitement in anticipation for next year’s sale. As Lilly herself once said, “These clothes make people happy. You feel happy wearing bright colors. It makes you smile. Who doesn’t want to smile a little bit more these days???” #lovelilly
