Aaptiv Fitness App Review

Back when I shared a post about my favorite fitness apps, one app that a lot of people said they used was Aaptiv. I wasn’t familiar with it at the time, but welcomed the opportunity to try something new! Plus, since so many of you already loved it, I knew it had to be good.

 Aaptiv Personal Training App Review

Aaptiv like most fitness apps, offers a variety of workouts for a variety of fitness levels. The difference between Aaptiv and the other fitness apps I reviewed, is that it is all audio based. It’s like having a personal trainer in your ear (at a fraction of the cost of a personal trainer), with some pretty awesome tunes to amp up your workout. Aaptiv works with at home workouts, but is also great for gym workouts, cycling, running and walking. I tried the app for 30 days, and mostly did the strength, weight loss and stretching routines because I workout at home.

Aaptiv Pros:

Review of Aaptiv Personal Trainer App

  • You can use the workouts just about anywhere; at the gym, at home, even out for a run or walk. All you need is your phone and a set of headphones.
  • There are a wide variety of schedules and styles to fit your fitness desires. You’re able to search based on your style, the amount of time you want to workout, your fitness level, and even your preferred music tastes. Once you get to know the trainers you like, you can search their workouts also. There are workouts for race training too which I thought was cool. Back when I trained for a half marathon, I would have found that really helpful and cool.
  • The music is awesome! I chose a lot of the dance and pop workouts, but there is a music style that fits most tastes. The music was very well mixed and energizing. I find that a lot of workout music is boring that accompanies videos and programs, so I think this was my favorite part of the entire app.
  • There is a variety of workout lengths. I am always changing my routine and the amount of time I want to workout, so I appreciated this part of it. I’m currently in a phase of doing hour long workouts 3 days a week as opposed to short workouts more often. So, I just added a few routines together to get the amount of work I wanted done. However, sometimes I just prefer a shorter workout, so I liked the options.
  • The price point is on par with other fitness apps I use at $14.99 a month or you can save and purchase the entire year for $99.99 (after a free 30 day trial). You can also cancel the membership at any time.

Review of Aaptiv App and Brooks Levitate LE

Overall, I enjoyed Aaptiv, and think it’s a great app. However, there was one con for me that kept it from being my all time favorite.

Aaptiv Personal Trainer App

Aaptiv Con:

My con (notice it’s con not cons) is really not anything wrong with the app itself, just my personal preference. I workout at home, and prefer a good mix of strength and cardio, so I felt the variety was limited for those type of workouts. I do think it’s a great app for running, walking and also as a gym accompaniment. That’s just not my preferred type of workout. Since Aaptiv is audio based, the exercises have to be simple, basic moves that most people would identify without seeing an example. So, most of the workouts I tried included the very same basic moves; squats, push-ups, lunges etc. Of course those are all great exercises, but y’all know I crave variety. I will also just say for full disclosure, I didn’t do every single workout, so there may be an outlier to that statement.

So, if you love the ability to take your workout (with a personal trainer) anywhere, and pretty awesome music, I think you should try Aaptiv! I’ll definitely be trying some of the other apps that were recommended from that post and am always up for new recommendations, so throw them my way! I also recently started following the Body Boss Nutrition Guide. So far, I’m loving the recipes, and haven’t been hungry one bit! I’ll give a full review and share any results I get from it with you in another post!
