I was around 14 when I realized that not everyone drank sweet tea with every meal. Where I’m from, sweet tea is a staple of every dinner, BBQ and celebration. Who needs water when you can drink tea? Don’t even try and serve that unsweet tea, that’s garbage. So back to 14, we were on vacation in California and I ordered a sweet tea, only to be told they only had hibiscus tea, not sweet tea. I remember being shocked, and disappointed. NO SWEET TEA?! What is this?! Don’t even get me started on that hibiscus tea, that’s not tea at all (totally kidding). I learned on that trip, that sweet tea is a southern thing, and I was pretty certain the rest of the world was missing out.
Like most things I indulged in, in my youth, sweet tea was one of the things I grew out of. Now if I want some tea occasionally, I sweeten it with stevia or grab a lightly sweetened blend like Tazo Organic Iced Black Tea. What’s a better occasion than National Iced Tea Day? This Sunday, June 10th is just that. I celebrated a little early and took a few bottles with us to the beach!
Steven and I took a little trip over the weekend for our anniversary, and the boys were so sad they couldn’t go. So come Monday, I decided I would turn right back around and take them too. I originally planned to just go by myself with the boys, which would be the first time ever I’ve braved that, but it worked out that Steven was able to have a day off and come with us too!
So, we packed up a cooler with lunch, snacks and of course Tazo bottled Iced Sweet Tea. Then spent the day building sand castles, riding a big family bike (that Steven was stuck with pedaling mostly) and finished off the day with dinner by the water. It made for such a sweet day – sweet like sweet tea.
So if you’re anything like me and feel the need to celebrate all the fun days like national chocolate, donut and iced tea day; celebrate with me on Sunday, June 10th!
