It’s groundbreaking – a blogger wearing white after Labor Day. I know. Truth is, bloggers don’t follow fashion rules, and white after labor day is very common place. However, sometimes the blog world is very different from the real world. Nearly every blogger has a pair of TB Miller sandals, yet I rarely see them in real life. They all have this pullover (which I’m pretty sure I need too now) and white booties were all the rage last year – yet I never saw it on the streets of my hometown. Maybe we’re trend setters, maybe we’re rule breakers, whatever it may be – I think we’re full on fabulous either way.
In Richmond, Virginia – we like to wear trends, and there is a wide mix of style, but there is also a very classic element of style that dominates, and some women who wouldn’t be caught dead in white after Labor Day. I wear my white, no shame, but I feel the side eyes, and I get the comments, nearly every time. Girl, aren’t you not supposed to wear white after labor day?! I tend to state my case, the rule is outdated, plenty of women don’t follow that rule anymore, but – that doesn’t mean it sits well.
I hear you, but white paired with fall colors, is just so beautiful, trust me, sometimes you just have to do it. So, what’s a girl to do when she wants to break a few fashion rules and not get the side eye? I have a few rules of my own, they’re based on nothing but my own preference, so don’t take them to heart. I mean unless you like my style, then you can take them to heart.
Wearing White After Labor Day
Pair it with fall prints: Pairing your white denim with any kind of fall specific print is going to definitely up the season appropriate factor. Personally, I love leopard print with white denim, but rocking a cute plaid flannel top or reptile print shoes would be just as cute. As long as you’re not rocking hot pink with it, no one can question if you’re trying to bring summer into fall.
Balance Contrast: This is probably a personal preference, but I prefer a little less contrast when I’m wearing white denim in the fall. Black and white is a beautiful combination, but I prefer to wear softer tones like chambray, soft olive, mustard and camel. If you do wear a dark contrasting color, I would throw something neutral on top to balance it out, like this camel sweater blazer. Leopard flats, a black top, white denim and a camel jacket or scarf on top is a beautiful combination!
Fall Appropriate Jackets and Blazers: Nothing says fall like a good layer. I would personally reach for a pretty blazer in a fall color like navy or camel or a cardigan in similar fall tones. Field jackets are also a beautiful topper for white denim.
So to my naysayers out there, have I convinced you yet to let go of this old school rule? Y’all wish me luck this fall when I wear my white denim, I know the side eyes are a coming.
