Ahh fall, the crisp air, the changing leaves – big cozy sweaters. That’s the fall you dream of, but not quite the fall we’re having so far. Truth is, our fall has been rather warm for the last few years, whether I want to admit that to myself or not. So, while I can’t break out the sweaters, boots and all the coziness just yet, I can wear other things that are totally fall, and still weather appropriate – the texture and rich color of a corduroy skirt.
Two Ways to Wear a Corduroy Skirt
I’m not much on corduroy pants for the fact that they make me feel heavier on the bottom, but I knew I wanted a corduroy skirt for fall. I ordered two to try, the one I’m wearing in this post from, J.Crew Factory and a button front one, from Old Navy. They had similar price points, but this one won for quality and fit. I personally went up one size in the J.Crew skirt to allow room for my hips, and I love the way it fits! I decided against the Old Navy skirt because I didn’t like that there wasn’t lining under the buttons and it had a strange fit. All I could imagine is sitting at my desk and there being a gap in the buttons, somewhere around the crotch. Not a good look.

Back to the skirt I chose. The color is a little difficult for me to wear, with my skin tone. When I tried wearing the skirt with just a pair of neutral shoes, it made me legs look a little grayish and pale. So I decided to warm up the look with leopard. If you ask me, leopard is what the skirts need! The colors balanced perfectly between the skirt and my white sweater. This would also work well with a black top. Plus, by going with flats, instead of the boots you typically see styled with a corduroy mini skirt, this look is totally appropriate for our warm fall weather. On a really hot day, you can easily swap the sweater for a white tee.

The same day this skirt came in the mail, this floral burgundy top came in as well. Together, they were the perfect match. However, I had a little issue with the shoe choice again, but opted for the cognac mules I’ve been loving.

If I had to pick a favorite between the two, I would say the white sweater with leopard flats. The leopard flats look the best with the skirt, and warm up my skin color a little more than the cognac mules. Coming from that same color scheme, I’ve worn this skirt with leopard flats, a white tee and a long black cardigan, and liked that too! Which way is your favorite?
