Draper James is a brand after my Southern heart; frilly, feminine and full of sass. However, as much as I love just about everything from Reese’s sweet brand, I have a hard time finding a good fit.

Draper James Dress
Draper James doesn’t offer petite sizes, which I hope is something that changes in the future. In my experience, most everything I’ve tried from there also runs a tad on the large side. In the past, I ordered a few dresses, that I ultimately had to return because they were too big, so I gave up. That was until this dress came in my recent fix from Stitch Fix.
Stitch Fix – Draper James
This wasn’t the first Draper James dress my stylist sent me. In a prior fix, she sent me this really adorable dress. Which sadly, was too long. However, I found that the drawstring at the waist fit me well (because it was adjustable) so I asked for more Draper James to try. My stylist delivered with this dress that also has that same drawstring waist, for an adjustable fit, and a much shorter hemline. Perfect for my petite self.
Personal Styling Services
As much as I love my tried and true J.Crew and LOFT petites, I really want to find other brands that actually fit my petite frame. Which is why I’m enjoying my styling subscriptions from Stitch Fix and Trunk Club. I’m able to try on and explore new brands, without making those initial purchases I may ultimately return due to sizing issues. Thanks to Stitch Fix, my interest has been renewed in Draper James.
Draper James Petite Fit
So, to answer the overall question of how does Draper James fit petites? Their sizes run a little large, but if you choose wisely, you can find a good fit. I find their dresses and skirts to be long, so choose one that is above the knee on the model. I also find their dresses to be large in the bust, which is great for some, not so great for someone like me. So go for a dress where the extra room won’t matter and avoid styles like the circle dress, and wrap dresses. If there is a drawstring involved on the dress, you’re in luck, since you can pull the dress up to your natural waist and tie it tight to keep it in place!

I feel like my renewed love for a brand I initially wrote off makes my subscription to Stitch Fix even more worth it. Stay tuned to find more brands I’ve been surprised to find in my fix.
