Animal prints have been a big trend this year. A trend that I love seeing on other people, but the conservative side of me really struggled to rock the trend myself. I’m fully comfortable with animal print on a pair of shoes, or an accessory, but wearing it on my clothes didn’t feel like “me”.
Until the leopard midi skirt of course. The skirt came from my Infinitely LOFT subscription. I added it to my virtual closet on a whim, like one of those things I wasn’t sure I would actually like or wear, but wanted to try. I can be conservative and a little stuck to my old tried and true ways, so it was a little out of the box for me. However, once I tried it on, my thoughts on wearing leopard were officially changed. I love that skirt! The skirt also turned out to be one of my top selling items from the blog, and the post continues to gain traction on Pinterest. So it’s safe to say I wasn’t the only one who liked it.
So this post is for the girls like me. The ones who maybe aren’t so sure about rocking the trend – trust me you should go for it. If you aren’t quite sure how to feel comfortable in it – I have a few tips for easing into the “wild side“.
Wear animal print shoes.
The easiest way to dabble in any trend without making a huge statement is with your shoes or accessories. I’ve been a long time fan of leopard shoes, especially in the fall. But this year, I also added it to my summer wardrobe with these sandals.

Pair animal print with neutrals.
If you’re bold, go ahead and pair animal prints with whatever colors you want! There are really no rules and it’s a great neutral print. However, if you’re conservative like me, I tend to feel more comfortable in a busy print if the rest of my outfit is more neutral. I love leopard print with black, white and chambray.
Keep the rest of your outfit simple.
Leopard is bold, so I personally prefer to keep the rest of my outfit simple when wearing the print. With the skirt I wore a simple black tank. It would also be really pretty with a simple white tank too. The same rules can be reversed with a leopard top and pants, and of course if you’re going for a bold leopard print cardigan in the fall, keep the outfit underneath solid colors and simple.
