As much as I love color, this post was actually born out of failed attempts to build another highly requested topic; wedding guest dresses. I think I get a message every day asking for wedding guest dresses and I have been looking – and failing! Big time. Since my blog is largely about finding a great fit for Petites, I think it is really important to actually know how something fits, before I recommend it to you. I could build you a collage of pretty dresses all day long, but if I don’t know how it fits, it’s not the best recommendation. So, I personally try on everything I share with you and take my time when building topics. I can find plenty of options for an outdoor garden wedding, so if that’s what you’re looking for you may find some inspiration from a couple in this post. However, to build a complete post about it, I really wanted to share all dress code types and I’m struggling to find more formal/cocktail style dresses. So, for now, I’ll share a few that I found along with a couple of other colorful petite-friendly things I’ve found recently.
Petite Friendly Colorful Spring Outfits
My Sizing: I’m 4’10” around 105 pounds. I’m typically a petite 00/0/24, petite XXS/XS, and I wear a size 5 shoe.
Amazon Finds
In my hunt for wedding guest dresses, I fell into the rabbit hole that is Amazon. Truth is, fit is difficult with Amazon items, but I’ve recently had a lot of luck with their dresses in particular. If you’ve never ordered from Amazon and are curious about the quality – remember sometimes, you get what you pay for. The lower price tag comes with lower quality, but I only recommend things that are the level of say Target or Walmart. There are definitely some things on Amazon that are a hard no in the quality department, but there are also plenty of great things and some that will really surprise you.
Midi/Maxi Skirt
The first thing is this maxi skirt. It’s really meant to be a midi skirt, but on someone as short as me – it’s the perfect maxi. I do still need a 1-2″ heel to keep the skirt from dragging the ground, I personally wear this comfortable pair with it. The skirt comes in lots of prints and has an adjustable waist. It’s really floaty and doesn’t have a crazy static situation when you walk. I recommend using a steamer with it to get the wrinkles out. I wore it here with a purple top to make the outfit full color, but I also wore it with a white top on Mother’s Day.

Maxi Dress
This dress is another one that is meant to be a midi, but it’s a maxi! The key thing to look for if you’re looking for a petite maxi dress. It also comes in other prints, including the print that I’m wearing on the skirt above. The dress is a little shorter than the skirt and can even be worn with flat shoes without dragging the ground. You can wear it off the shoulder which I think dresses it up, or on the shoulder if you prefer to wear it with a regular bra. I’m wearing it in a size small.

After the success of these two things from Amazon, I ordered a few more to try so keep an eye out for a full Amazon style post coming soon!
Halter Dress
I ordered this dress for a wedding guest post and it’s perfect! It also comes in a solid green color if you don’t love the print. The fit is great and this dress even works without the tie in the waist and can be worn with flat shoes as well for a more casual and comfortable summer look. I’m wearing it in Petite XXS and find it to be true to size.

Walmart Top
As much as I love what Walmart has been putting out, a lot of it runs too big for me. I put in an order after several of you asked for a try-on and this top was the only thing out of five that actually fit. Still worth looking there, I’ve also found a great pair of shorts there and this well-made top from their Free Assembly line. The top is open at the embroidered area so you’ll need to wear a nude bra, and if you’re like me a nude cami as well.

Target Dress
This target dress has tie-up straps so it’s adjustable and it comes in several colors. The last I checked my exact color is now sold out, but the other options are great too! This would make a great comfortable summer dress! I’m wearing it in XS.

Lavender Top
This is the same top as above just with a pair of jeans instead. I actually wore a different outfit in the Reel I posted, but that top sold out so I wanted to share this other option instead. I love the fit of Ann Taylor’s puff sleeve tops they’ve been putting out recently. They’re thick and stretchy like a bodysuit and tuck beautifully into pants, shorts and skirts.

I’m still planning to post a wedding guest dress post, even if I can’t find a dress for every dress code, at least I can help a little! I’m also still planning my work capsule wardrobe. That’s another one that I’ve been having a hard time with because I’m looking for some great options for work pants, but hopefully, I’ll be ready to post that soon.
