Fall doesn’t always mean boots and sweaters. For some, you’re already starting to think about dressing for the fall season, when it’s dreadfully hot outside, and for others your fall, in general, is hot. So, instead of changing your wardrobe over to sweaters when you think fall, I always look for fall colors in clothes that will still keep me cool.
Today I’m sharing five combinations you can wear now for late summer, or later for a warm fall season.
5 Ways to Wear Fall Style Now
Shorts and a Light Cardigan
Pairing shorts with a light sweater is always a great way to make a fall transition. If you opt for a light cardigan and a sleeveless top, you can drop the sweater if things get too warm. You can also wear boots with shorts and a cardigan if the weather allows.

Cropped Jeans and a Tank Top
I have worn these jeans more than any other pair since I bought them a few weeks ago. I love the charcoal color and just overall really love the fit of the jeans. They’re comfortable, don’t stretch out and the cropped length looks really cute with sandals. You can wear this one as the weather cools with a cardigan or a button-down top left open on top. I recently found a pair of boyfriend jeans at Old Navy that is similar to this pair, but a lot less expensive. The difference is in the fit, this pair has a flare at the bottom, where the boyfriend jeans do not. The boyfriend jeans also have room in the top and an overall looser fit.

3. Light Dress in a Fall Color
I’m planning an entire post of fall dresses because I think it’s a great way to wear fall style but still stay cool. This dress was hanging on my rack in my recent videos and I had so many questions about it! I’m finally sharing all of the details. The dress itself has a lot of extra fabric, but pulling it in with the included belt gives it a floaty appearance. It fits me well in the armholes and the length is great for work and to be worn casually. I would add a denim jacket and booties to this dress for cooler weather. It’s also pretty with the burgundy cardigan I’m wearing in the first outfit.

4. Distressed Jeans and a Fall Top
You can wear this top with jeans like me, or you can wear it with shorts to stay even cooler. I love the fall color and the cute puff sleeves that are just the right amount of puff. Not too big.

5. Fall Printed Top and Shorts
Last, just like a fall-colored top works well with shorts, so does a fall print. This top is really light and has a unique hem. I don’t have it tucked in this photo, it has a cropped bubble hem. In general, I think this top will work well for fall transition outfits because of the light fabric that will keep you cool. I’m wearing it in XXS and it fits well.

So if your fall is a warm one, or you want to start making the seasonal transition now – opt for shorts, dresses and light tops in dark fall colors and prints.
