When I first posted about these straight-leg jeans this summer they were one of the highest selling items I’ve ever posted on my blog. For good reason – they’re truly cropped even on my 4’10” frame (in extra short) and they have a trendy fit. The denim is rigid and flattering and the knee rips hit at the knees on someone who is petite. At the same time, I received several messages asking how I would wear them into the fall and I made a few promises to restyle them for cooler weather as well.
Fall Denim Trends
First, let’s talk about denim trends. High-rise in any style is still top of the trend list, but I have seen many retailers putting out more mid-rise options for the mid-rise fans. As far as the leg style goes, straight, wide, and flare are making a comeback. I used to live in flare jeans in my teens, but straight-leg jeans are newer to me. I’ll go ahead and tell you wide-leg jeans are a hard no for me, every pair I’ve tried looks terrible on me and reminds me of my 12 year-old-self.
When it comes to straight-leg jeans, they have a slimmer profile which makes it easier to wear just like you would skinny jeans, with flats, booties, and sneakers. When it comes to wearing booties with them, the slimmer the leg, the easier it is. This pair I’m wearing in this post is a little wider at the bottom because they’re cropped so to me they look best with a bootie that hits right at the hem or goes slightly under the jeans. If they show ankle it looks pretty awkward in my opinion.
About The Jeans
This particular pair has an ultra-high rise and they hit me right on top of my belly button. I don’t have a long torso, I’m pretty much short all around but I’m fairly proportionate meaning my legs and torso are just equally short. I’m wearing them in extra short and I’m 4’10”, if you’re a little taller than me, or you want less of a crop you may prefer them in the short length. They run a little small in my opinion and I sized up one size to a 25 extra short.
4 Ways to Wear Straight Leg Jeans Fall Edition
With a Fall Top
I showed this top two ways in the Reel – one tucked all the way in with a pair of heels, which would be great for an area with mild fall weather. If you wanted to dress it down, I showed it half-tucked with a pair of neutral mules. The top is from Target and runs a little large. I’m wearing it in XS and it has a flowy oversized fit.

With Booties
Many of you wanted to see this combination the most because it isn’t the easiest to put together. I think the key is finding a boot that has the right shaft height. Like I said above, a boot that hits right at the hem or slightly under looks best. It would also look a little less heavy if the boot is slimmer In the shaft. I plan to find a pair of straight-leg jeans that aren’t distressed (many of you have asked for that) and putting more combinations together with booties!

With a Bodysuit
High-waist jeans always look great with a bodysuit, but you can get the same look with a tucked in top if you don’t find bodysuits to be comfortable. I styled it two ways, simply with a pair of mules and also with sneakers and a flannel top. Fit pointers, this bodysuit runs small, so I sized up to XS. The flannel top I have tied around my waist also runs small. I bought it in petite, but the sleeves are really short so I would recommend the regular sizing instead.

With a Sweater and Flats
10/10 my favorite outfit to wear is a simple one like this. Also, this is one of my first ever cashmere sweaters. It’s definitely soft and amazing like they say about cashmere and I’m hoping with the price tag it will be something that lasts for years. There is a cotton blend alternative that is much cheaper in a very similar color that I’ll also link. I recommend sizing up in both options to XS.
