Kick Crop, Demi Boot, Cropped Flare – this style of denim goes by many names, but the fit is the same no matter what you call it. This style of denim has a slim cropped leg with a slight flare. It’s a fun and flattering style, and personally one of my favorites when it comes to wearing denim that isn’t skinny. I bought my first pair of cropped flare jeans in 2020 and I’ve been trying to win you over on this style ever since. Looking back on my first post with them, some of these outfits I would still totally wear, some I will absolutely leave in 2020 (looking at you tie-dye t-shirt).
Just like straight jeans, my favorite shoes to wear with this style of denim is a pair that shows a little ankle, but a bootie works as well, I’ll give you an example of five different pairs of shoes you can wear with it.
Cropped Flare Jeans Five Ways
Starting with the pair of jeans I’m wearing in this post, this is a “Kick Crop” from LOFT. They’re high rise, but stretchy and comfortable. I sized up in them, but they do stretch with wear, so you may be able to get away with your true size. For size comparison I’m wearing them in 25 petite, I’m 4’10” and around 105lbs. Of all of my cropped flare jeans, this one is a little longer in length making it even easier to pair with a wide range of shoes. I also wore this style from LOFT in this post.

With Flats
If the weather allows, I love to wear pointed-toe flats. They’re comfortable, but they still give the leg elongating effect that a pair of heels can give. Especially if you go for a light neutral color or a pair that is close to your skin tone. I have had several pairs of shoes just like this one over the years, when one wears out, I buy another because it’s a style I reach for over and over again.

With Booties
The same rules for wearing booties with straight jeans apply to wearing booties with cropped flare jeans. You want the shaft of the boot to be thin and close to your ankle and you want it to tuck under the jeans. I prefer them with a bootie that has a heel, a flat boot is going to make you look shorter and look a little bit awkward with the cropped flare.
If you’re looking for more ways to wear this olive top, it was a star in one of my capsule wardrobe posts (updated version of the top is missing one of the chest pockets that mine has).

With Heels
If you peeked at my first post with cropped flare jeans, you’ll notice I mostly paired them with strappy heels. I was most comfortable with them that way at first because it definitley elongates the legs. I’ve started to share these clear strap favorites from last year again this year becaue I know you’ll love them come spring and summer. They’re really comfortable and versatile! My white blazer is a Parke blazer from J.Crew. The Parke blazer fits me better than any other blazer, but I’m searching for some less expensive options that are petite-friendly as well. I’m hoping I’ll have more to share with you as spring gets closer.

With Sneakers
Even sneakers looks really cute with cropped flare jeans. The key to making this work is making sure your cropped flares show enough ankle, otherwise it looks a little awkward and unbalanced. I love my Veja sneakers, but I’m also linking another white sneaker option!

With Sandals
I know it seems crazy to talk about sandals in January, but for my friends that like to plan ahead, I wanted to show a way that these jeans can be worn into the warmer season. Come summer I would wear them with sandals and a t-shirt, but for spring you may like this open knit sweater with them. To note, the sweater is see through, you’ll need a cami underneath for wearing it out.
