Workwear Fall Capsule Wardrobe

I pulled many pieces from my Casual Fall Capsule Wardrobe and added a few to create this workwear capsule. I purposely mixed in jeans to try to hit on different dress codes, and give different ideas, but of course, the jeans options can be recreated with black pants instead. You’ll probably recognize some of the outfits from the casual capsule as well. Many of those outfits can be work appropriate depending on your dress code.

Sizing Reference: I’m 4’10” and around 105lbs. My bust, waist, and hip measurements are: 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 24″ cropped and 25-26″ full-length.

The Items

Short Cardigan: A short cardigan looks great on its own, but you can also layer with it, throw it over your shoulders, and wear it backward for a fun back detail. My exact sweater is from J.Crew in XXS and it fits me very well overall. I also have one from Target that has an oversized fit, but I like the way that one looks as well. I wear the Target sweater in XS.

Washable Silk Top: Any neutral button-down can fill this spot, but I included a washable silk top from Everlane. I’m wearing it in XXS but it still has a slightly oversized fit on me. Less expensive silk top option here.

Short Sleeve Sweater: I love to layer with this sweater and also wear it on its own. I’m wearing it in XS and it fits true to size.

Layering Sweaters: I chose to use lightweight crewneck sweaters for my layering pieces. They are all the same sweater from J.Crew Factory and I’m wearing them in XS. I chose white, black, and camel. I love these sweaters in general, but be careful when you wash them, they do not do well in the dryer and will need to be laid flat to dry.

Plaid Blazer: This printed blazer is a great way to mix things up, but it’s also still very neutral and can be worn with many different colors. This blazer is soft with stretch and very comfortable. I’m wearing it in Petite 00 and it fits true to size.

Black Blazer: Although I love my Parke blazer, I wanted to find a less expensive and more comfortable blazer to include in my capsule. I found this knit one from Boden that fits me well in Petite 2. It has a slightly oversized modern fit and stretches.

White Button-Down: I’ve grown really fond of a white button-down. You can wear it casually, but also dress it up for work. It layers well and looks great on its own. My exact top is from Boden and I’m wearing it in Petite 2. I also have one from J.Crew Factory in Petite XXS that fits me the same and really overall feels the same as the Boden top at a lower price point.

Juliette Sweater Blazer: If you spend any amount of time browsing fashion accounts you’ve seen the trending fall outfits completed by a long coat. The coat can be a wrap style, topcoat, or trench coat. I absolutely love those outfits and have also had absolutely no luck (so far) finding a coat like it that doesn’t completely swallow me. So, my petite-friendly solution to get the look while still flattering my frame is this long sweater blazer from J.Crew. It’s another classic I’m sure you’ve seen around over the years. The weight is just like my shorter J.Crew sweater blazer (thicker than a sweater/cardigan, but not a full-blown blazer/coat) and it has a slightly oversized fit on me in XXS.

Topcoat: The coat I chose for this capsule is the Daphne Topcoat from J.Crew. This coat is unlined, but the boiled wool is still fairly warm. I wouldn’t consider this to be a great coat for super cold weather, but for mild areas or for fall temps it’s great. I appreciate the petite-friendly fit in Petite 00. I am currently planning a post with some of my favorite winter coats, so stay tuned for that.

Trenchcoat: I included a trenchcoat for those that the weather works for it. For me, a trench will work well in early fall and spring, but I really need a heavier coat for winter and would choose the topcoat instead. I’m wearing this trench in Petite 00 and it fits me well.

Pants/Jeans

I’m going to share a few different options, but I say choose what is going to work best for your dress code and style.

Wide Leg Trousers: The brown/tan color trousers are from Abercrombie. They fit me well in XS Short and I love that they have a belt loop. For reference, I’m 4’10” and would need to hem the pants to wear them with flats, they work on me with a 2-3.75″ heel.

Black Wide Leg Trousers: The Black trousers are from Boden and are made from comfortable ponte. This pair is a little bit longer than the Abercrombie pair, but still works with a pair of heels on my height. I find this pair to be a little bit dressier than the Abercrombie pair, but they do have more room on me in the waistband. I’m wearing them in Petite 2.

High-Rise Slim Pants: Choose a pair of black pants that work for your style. I have a few different options in this post. The pair I chose for the capsule has a straight-cropped fit and a high rise. I wear them in Petite 00, and could size down one if there was a smaller size.

Black Jeans: The jeans I chose for this post are a pair from Ann Taylor in a cropped boot fit. I chose this pair because I like the high-rise, stretchy material and most importantly, the fact that they look great with both boots and flats. Dark-Wash Jeans: My dark wash jeans are Madewell’s Perfect Vintage Straight I’m wearing them in Petite 24 and they fit true to size.
