Scouring the internet for the best petite jeans has kind of become my thing. At 4’10” I’m on the shortest end of petite so often if something fits me, there’s a good chance it’s going to fit all of my other petite friends around the world. Petite clothes are made for those of us under 5’4″ (so not every single petite pair fits me well). I don’t hem or alter the jeans in any way. I feel like that would kind of defeat the purpose of sharing them with you. This is true for all of my posts, if I do anything to adjust the length of something (fold it under, etc) I will note that for you by the item.
That being said, we all have very different proportions, some will have longer legs and a shorter torso, and some have narrow hips, or wide hips, etc. I’ve written many petite jeans guides over the years, but starting with the last one I did in the fall I include inseam and rise measurements (that I take myself) so you can hopefully find the best fit for you. Most petite jeans are only offered online which brings another challenge of not being able to go to the store and try them on yourself. I try my best to help you with my personal review as well as feedback I get from readers who try certain brands and fits as well. Something I added to this denim guide is a back view of the jeans. I’ll admit I didn’t do this in the past because it feels awkward, but I know seeing pocket placement can make a difference for many when choosing a pair of jeans.

No-Hem Petite Jeans
Sizing Reference: I’m 4’10” and around 105lbs. I’m technically pear-shaped and my measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″ as I noted above, none of the jeans have been hemmed or altered in any way. I will list my personal sizing beside each item for you to compare when shopping online.
Madewell Stovepipe Jeans
I’m a broken record when it comes to Madewell jeans because they are truly my favorite. It’s not just the length for me, it’s the overall fit and comfort. However, the fit and length of Madewell jeans vary from pair to pair and although most of the time they are true to size for me, some of my readers have mentioned they need to size down most of the time. So, my disclaimer with Madewell is I can’t vouch for a pair I haven’t tried, if it’s not a direct link from my blog, it may or may not be a great petite fit. Some styles I’ve tried have been too long for me, but the inseams are almost always listed in the description so you can check that before ordering.

Abercrombie Ankle Straight Jeans
This exact pair of jeans has been incredibly popular for the last two years. Abercrombie brings it back over and over again. I love it for the petite-friendly knee rips (actually hits at the knee), the waist-cinching, and the rigid denim. This pair also comes in extra short or short (I’m wearing short here, but wore the extra short pair in this post). This pair also has a maternity option that comes in short which is very rare. They are not the most comfortable pair of jeans, they’re tight in the waist, but a size up makes them too big for me. They will stretch with wear which is a good thing and also a not-so-good thing when they stretch out too much by the end of the day.

Good American Good Girlfriend Jeans
I’ve tried a few different premium denim brands and haven’t landed on a great fit until I tried Good American. I’m not only impressed with the fit, but they’re also really comfortable and well-made. The Good Girlfriend fit is true to size and rigid, but the rise is low and comfortable. There is a little bit of extra room in the legs, and they do loosen and stretch with wear.

Good American Good Straight
The Good Straight fit is a little wide in the leg, but these jeans are so comfortable. They’re stretchy, but thick and not too high-rise. My only issue with this pair is this length and ankle opening doesn’t look that great with flat shoes that come up on the foot (like a loafer or sneakers).

LOFT Skinny
I love these jeans because of the simple dark wash, the waist cinching and the skinny fit all the way to the ankle. They make a great pair of jeans for work and are comfortable to wear, even with a high-rise. They are also one of the least expensive pair of jeans on my list. I say it in every denim post, but skinny jeans are absolutely still “in” and are often the best choice for balancing outfits on Petites. These jeans look best with low shoes that show a little more of your foot (like ballet flats, sandals, and heels). My least favorite part of these jeans is the pocket placement, the higher pockets make your bottom look bigger, and I’m personally already wide in the hips and don’t really need the extra emphasis.

J.Crew Factory Classic Straight
J.Crew Factory makes great budget friendly jeans. Although they’re less expensive, they never feel less expensive to me. They fit a lot like the jeans at J.Crew (which I also really love), but sometimes will stretch out more with wear than my J.Crew pairs. The straight styles are often my favorite because the denim is thicker.

Other Petite Jeans
If a brand carries petites or short, there’s a good chance I’ve tried it! So while I don’t have a specific pair to share in this guide, here are a few other brands I often shop for petite jeans.
- Ann Taylor
- Target (you can occasionally find short lenghts there)
- Walmart (Sofia Vergara brand carries short styles)
- American Eagle (Extra short tends to fit me best and I size up)
- J.Crew (their petite jeans almost always fit me)
I’ve also tried my fair share of jeans that didn’t fit me, but may be an option for you if you’re a little bit taller (5’0″ and over), so here’s that list if it helps you.
- Express – I’ve tried several pairs of their jeans and they’re just not proportioned properly for my body type, but I wouldn’t write them off completely for petites.
- Old Navy/Gap – Although I have had luck (rarely) their petites tend to be too long for me.
- AGOLDE – I tried the Riley Crop after reading about them on another petite blog and they were too long and not proportioned properly for me
- Levi’s Wedge Straight– Some petites have luck with the 26″ inseam, but this is another pair that was too long and not proportioned properly for me.
- Everlane – I’ve had reader feedback that the 26.5″ inseam Cheeky Jeans fit great if you’re 5’0″ or a little bit over. They’re too long for me and were too tight around my hips.
