Tell us a little about you?

I am a retired model whose focus is on makeup artistry and photography. During the height of my career, I used makeup artistry and photography as tools to help people raise their self esteems. Then, I was featured in BET’s SHINE as a positive role model for the urban community. My experience is also in research, statistics, and intelligence analyst, and I am matriculating toward my third graduate degree.

How long have you been a make up artist?

My parents would say since I was old enough to exercise motor functions and coordination! I have been applying makeup to people literally since I was old enough to hold a brush. My then “career” began when I would apply makeup to people while they were sleeping! They liked what I did and kept asking for more. Pretty much the same with photography.

What first sparked your interest in the beauty industry?

My mother had an Estée Lauder makeup kit the size of a briefcase from her modeling days. I used to sneak into it as she slept, and I would apply makeup to her and anyone who was at the house. That and I have ADHD. Pretty colors, bright lights, shiny objects, fuzzy bunnies…

Do you have a speciality or look you love doing most?

I really enjoy the 1920s for no reason. Airbrushing is my specialty. For a while, I almost forgot how to hand apply makeup.

Number one beauty tip you would pass along:

Unless you are going to a fashion show, be comfortable with your beauty and accentuate your natural features. My mother always said, “If you wear makeup everyday, what will be special about your looks when you get dressed up and want to look different?” I typically only wear non natural makeup looks only for shoots and special occasions, or to freak people out. Ha ha
