Our family loves taking trips to Disney and visiting a local theme park in the summer. I’m often asked for Disney outfit ideas, but I tend to shy away from that topic because often what people are looking for is themed outfits (not my strong suit) and I don’t want to disappoint. However, I have visited Disney quite a few times over the years through different seasons, so I do have a few tips I can share for general things to keep in mind when building your outfits. In today’s post, I put together a few outfits I would wear to Disney (or any theme park) during the summer.

What I Would Wear: to a Theme Park
My Sizing: I’m 4’10” and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″ and 36″. My typical inseam is 24-25″. The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online.
Activewear Shorts
When there’s heat, sunshine, and high humidity (paired with miles upon miles of walking) you’re going to want to choose quick-dry, lightweight fabrics. I love the overall fit of these shorts from Athleta. They have quick-drying fabric with an elevated style. I also love the zippers on the pockets and the stretchy (like a pair of yoga pants) waistband. I paired it with a simple cotton tank top, but you could go for a simple T-shirt as well. To make this more Disney specific a themed t-shirt and of course Mickey ears would be perfect!
Comfortable Shoes
I recommend picking a shoe that is comfortable for you. I’ve heard from some people they comfortably wore sandals their entire Disney trip, some wore Crocs, but a safe bet is a pair of running or walking sneakers. I would also recommend bringing more than one pair of shoes so you can alternate them. With lots of waking, even the most comfortable shoes can wear pressure points in certain areas. I personally wore my Veja sneakers when we went to Disney in February and was just fine with them. However, they aren’t a shoe that is made for walking/tons of support, so I wouldn’t recommend them if someone asked me for a really comfortable shoe.
Hat
If you’re visiting a park like Disney that doesn’t have a ton of roller coasters, you may be just fine with a hat to keep the sun off of your face and scalp. The humidity at Disney always does a number on my hair, so really it feels like an unnecessary task to try to do anything to it.

Linen Shorts
If you’re thinking about wearing denim shorts to Disney in the summer, I would recommend rethinking that (of course, to each their own). I have definitely worn denim shorts when we went in February one year and even in April (we hit an odd cool week that year), but I once attempted it on a September trip and it was just a bad choice. Not to mention on that September trip I wore my then six-month-old in an Ergo baby (so very hot and sweaty). Choosing any lightweight, breathable bottom is going to keep you the most comfortable. This linen pair from Athleta is roomy, but they have a little more structure than other pairs I’ve tried. They also have zippers on the pockets which I like because it keeps the pockets from puckering. If I was wearing this outfit to a local theme park that’s significantly less walking than Disney, I would wear these sandals, but for Disney, I would wear sneakers.
Hands-Free Bag
A hands-free bag is a must at an amusement park. You could go with the Lululemon bag that you see everywhere or you could go for a backpack bag like I have on in this outfit. I wore this bag when we went to Disney in February and loved having the extra room for all of the random things you need just in case. In case you’re curious I carry extra things like kid’s ibuprofen, bandaids, sunscreen, hand wipes, ponchos, and water bottles. I was able to wear this bag on all of the rides (I didn’t ride any roller coasters).

Dress + Sneakers
The most worn outfit combination I see when we visit Disney is a dress and sneakers. If you’re someone that loves to theme it up a bit, a dress is a really cute option. I may have gone a little boring for you with this simple black one, but I just wanted to use it as an example. (Side note – I wouldn’t really choose black for every outfit, I just used what I had in my closet to build these ideas and they all happened to be black). Totally optional, but you could also add bike shorts under any dress to help with sweating, thigh rubbing, and hot seats. An activewear dress is another option, but I personally don’t want awkward bathroom breaks and clingy all-over fabric. When we went in February I wore this dress from Amazon with sneakers. The Amazon dress is cute and overall a cool option, but it is long and has a lining, so it may not be the best choice if you’re visiting Disney during the summer.

Activewear Romper
I said I didn’t like awkward bathroom breaks and then included a romper – but hear me out. This one really is easy to take off and on (it buttons at the neck) and it’s great for staying cool. The fabric is lightweight and quick-drying. It has an open back so you can wear it with a sports bra. I wore this one to our local theme park a few times last summer, it also works great over a bathing suit.
