Sometimes capsule posts are hard for me because I’ll see an item and think of so many ways it can be worn, but I feel a little bit limited when I’m choosing that item for the capsule. So this series was born. I’m taking a few pieces from the capsule and mixing them with some of the items that are in the capsule, but also other items that you may already have in your closet for even more outfit ideas. Stay tuned for the full fall capsule wardrobe post. I’ve been taking my time on this post to ensure that I choose items I think will stay in stock and trying to make it slightly different from other posts you may see from previous years and other bloggers out there.
While most of the capsule series posts are directed at multiple ways to wear the item, I made this post with the idea of showing you different shoe options to go with the two pairs of jeans I will be including in the capsule. With denim styles changing a lot over the last few seasons, I’m finding I get the most questions about what shoes to wear, so I hope you find this post helpful.

Capsule Series: Straight Jeans Shoe Pairings
The jeans I’m including in my capsule this year are slightly different than the straight jeans from previous years. One pair is a ’90s style which has a full-length leg that hits the top of the foot. The other pair is also full-length (a little bit shorter than the light wash pair) but has a mid-rise, which is something you’ll be seeing more of this season.
Mary Jane Flats
I never stopped loving ballet flats and Mary Jane flats, so seeing them back in popularity is exciting for me! Although both of these jeans have a full-length leg, Mary Jane flats also look great with cropped styles you may already have in your closet. The shoes in this post are from J.Crew. I find them to be true to size overall but they do have a little breaking in period.

Ballet Flats
I know ballet flats won’t work for everyone as the weather starts to get cold in certain areas but I’m going to wear them for as long as I can into the winter. They’re my personal favorite to wear because they look good with just about everything! I love neutral options like this soft beige and I’m also loving the metallic trend and bought these flats in silver and gold as well. I find the flats to be true to size and really comfortable! You can see a video review of them here.

Sneakers
There are lots of different sneakers you can wear with your jeans, but my personal opinion is a slim pair looks best with full-length straight jeans. If you want to wear a chunkier pair, I would choose a cropped pair of jeans to show a little more ankle. I picked my high-top Converse because they’re slim but they’re also warm with a pair of tall socks tucked under the jeans. Other popular styles that are also really hard to find in stock are Adidas Samba and Gazelle, as well as Onitsuka Tiger sneakers.

Clogs (Birkenstock Boston)
Whether you can snag a pair of Birkenstock Boston clogs or a close dupe, adding warm socks with these and full-length straight jeans is such a comfortable combination. It took me quite a while to snag a pair in my size, but I finally found one at Free People of all places. These shoes go against all things I normally think to myself when picking shoes. They’re not slim, they’re not a light color, and are definitely an acquired taste. They were popular when I was in high school and I wanted nothing to do with them, but here I am in my 30s choosing the comfy life over everything else.

Boots
Now for the most common fall and winter shoe – boots. I haven’t written up a post about boots yet because I have been struggling to find options to share with you that I really love. The pair I’m wearing in this post is older, but is most along the lines of the style I prefer (slim shaft, pointed toe). I think boots look the best with straight jeans that are full-length. More to come on picks for fall as I find them!
