Spring Transitional Outfits

I don’t know about you, but we’ve started to get a little taste of spring where I live. The sun is brighter, and a few days here and there our temperatures have hit the low 70s. I’ve always liked seasonal shifts, but I think the shift from winter to spring is always the most refreshing to me. I say it every year; I never realize how much winter had me down until the spring sunshine returns.

If you’re looking for outfit ideas that will take you through the transition from winter to spring, I have three petite-friendly options today.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Trench Coat

I love wearing my trench coat in the spring (and fall). It’s a lightweight layer that classes up an outfit. In this outfit I paired it with a polo top and cropped wide leg jeans. The top is thick and has a boxy cut. It has a roomy fit on me in XXS, but I wouldn’t size down. The weight of the top makes it great for mild weather. The jeans are from J.Crew Factory. They’re similar to the J.Crew pair I’ve recently reviewed and are true to size. In petite they have a 10″ rise and a 25″ inseam.

Half-Zip Sweater

This is the first half-zip sweater I’ve come across that is properly proportioned for me. It hits right at my hip and although I do have the sleeves cuffed, they aren’t too long un cuffed. The jeans in this outfit are the J.Crew pair I referenced above. This pair has the same 10″ rise and 25″ inseam, like the pair above, but they run large. I definitely recommend a size down for the best fit.

Ruffle Top

I’ve owned a couple of tops over the years that look like this one. It’s a style that remains a favorite of mine. The top is simple and comfortable, but the ruffles give it a little something extra. For fit reference, the top is true to size. The armholes are relatively large, so I recommend wearing a camisole underneath of it. The Palmer Wide Leg Crop Pants in Twill are a style I’ve shared with you previously. LOFT puts the Palmer Pants out in different materials through the season and I find each one to fit differently. In the case of the twill style, I find them to run a little bit large, and they have a waist gap. If you have the option I think you’ll get the best fit in a size down. I didn’t add a top layer here because I didn’t want to cover up the sleeves. But if you need it for the weather, this outfit would look great with a denim jacket or trench coat as well. You can also swap the sandals for flats or sneakers.
