Revisiting things from my youth seems to be the theme this week. I started with bootcut jeans and am now moving on to a brand I wore exclusively in my younger days—American Eagle. American Eagle jeans come in lengths, some short, and some styles in extra short. They’ve always been a great fit for me, and they’re also a great price point. I never stopped liking American Eagle; I just found myself shifting to brands that had cleaner washes and less distressing as I got older. However, after numerous requests from my lovely readers, I took another look at their denim and found some new styles to love.

AE Jeans Review: Petite-Friendly Styles
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Measurements given for jeans are taken from the size I’m wearing. Rise and inseam measurements often go up slightly as sizing goes up.
Super High-Waisted Ankle Straight
- Stretch: Thick stretch denim with a relaxed fit – you may want to size down for the best fit
- Rise: High 10″
- Inseam: 26″ in short
- Measurements are taken from 00 Short
I found that “Super High Waisted” at AE is around a 10″ rise, and “High Waisted” is a 9-9.5″ rise. This differs from other brands so I felt it was fitting to point out first. For reference, most brands consider high rise to be 10″ and mid-rise to be 9″. The Super High Waisted Ankle Straight jeans have a relaxed fit with a classic straight leg. I kept my true size in this pair (00 Short) but if you want a close fit, I recommend a size down. To note, I did find some variation in fit in different washes with this style. So, as far as sizing up or down I’m only referencing the dark wash I’m wearing here.

High-Waisted Kick Bootcut
- Stretch: Stretch denim
- Rise: High 9.5″
- Inseam: 24″ in short
- Measurements are taken from 00 Short
The High-Waisted Kick Bootcut is the cropped flare/bootcut style I love and write about often. In short, these jeans are a perfect cropped length – I measured a 24″ inseam in short. The jeans are lightweight with a high level of stretch. If you’re the same height as me, these jeans are too short for boots (in short) but work well with flats, heels and sneakers.

Super High-Waisted Flare Jean
- Stretch: Stretch denim
- Rise: High 10″
- Inseam: 30″ in short
- Measurements are taken from 00 Short
The Super High-Waisted Flare Jeans are stretchy, with a slim fit through the hips and thighs and a substantial flare leg. They have a 30″ inseam in short, so for me, they’re a heels-only pair of jeans. Overall, I find them to be true to size.

Dreamy Drape Strigid Ripped Low-Rise Baggy Flare
- Stretch: Stretch denim
- Rise: 9″
- Inseam: 29.5″ in short
- Measurements are taken from 00 Short
I didn’t expect to like these jeans, but I was pleasantly surprised. They have a close fit through the hips and a loose, drapey flared leg. They’re “low-rise,” but a 9″ rise is really more of a mid-rise. The jeans are rigid with comfortable stretch, what AE calls strigid. They’re true to size. I need a heel with these jeans, but I think that helps balance the voluminous fit. To note, since this is a relaxed fit, there is some bunching at my feet, even in heels.
