Baggy Jeans for Petites

If you asked me a couple of months ago if I was going to try the baggy jeans trend – I would have said, no. However, I also like to hold on to never say never. I’m the type of person that often takes a little extra time to adopt something new. I don’t like change and tend to get set in my ways. Baggy jeans immediately felt like a no for me. In my mind, they were going to make me look wider, shorter – blah. I held on to that belief until I actually tried a couple pairs that I liked So, here’s my PSA to never say never to a trend until you try it – that is if you want to. There’s also the truth that you can and should wear whatever you want and feel good in.

Baggy Jeans for Petites

My Sizing: I’m 4’10” and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″ and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement of the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. Measurements taken are from the size I’m wearing.

Both pairs of jeans in this post are from Abercrombie. If there was ever a brand that can take something loose fit and still make your butt look good – it’s Abercrombie.

High Rise Loose

  • FIT Full-Length, loose around the waist, hips and legs with a high rise
  • FABRIC & STRETCH Rigid, no stretch.
  • RISE & INSEAM Rise: 11″, Inseam: 29″ (in short)
  • SIZING Overall true to size

Of the two baggy/loose styles I tried, the High Rise Loose feels the most like “me”. I’ll embrace a lower rise, but I still love the look of high-rise jeans. These jeans are true to size, with extra room through the waist, hips, and legs. Because they’re looser, the rise drops a little so the 11″ rise sits lower than a 10.5″ rise on a pair that fits snug. I’m wearing them in short, so it bunches at my ankle, but they also come in extra short. I haven’t tried extra short so I can’t speak to the inseam and rise measurements.

Baggy

  • FIT Full-Length, baggy fit all around
  • FABRIC & STRETCH Rigid, no stretch.
  • RISE & INSEAM Rise: 9.5″, Inseam: 27″ (in extra short)
  • SIZING Overall true to size

The Baggy is the biggest step outside of my comfort zone. They’re all around baggy and loose and will drop down with wear (meaning you’ll be pulling them up as you wear them). Abercrombie considers this pair low rise, even though most mid-rise jeans have a 9″ rise and these have a 9.5″ rise. However, just like the loose pair, the rise drops down so they sit lower on your body. These jeans are very comfortable and still flattering despite their loose fit. They puddle a little bit at my feet in extra short, but that’s how baggy jeans are commonly worn. For what it’s worth with a lower rise like this wear your top untucked.
