All of us had our favorite movies growing up. Some had a fun story with lots of adventure (The Goonies), memorable quotes (“you’re killing me smalls”), trend-setting fashion (Clueless), lots of dancing (Girls Just Want To Have Fun) and some provided us with our first tear-jerker movie experience (My Girl…oh, the number of tears that were shed). If you grew up in the 80’s or 90’s, many of these might have been on your list. One thing many of our old favorites have in common is that now they are sort of a time capsule for the fashion trends were popular for the time the movie was made in. But fashion always seems to make its way back around, and a lot of things that were popular back when we were kids have made a comeback in recent years (ie. Keds, flannel, leopard print, overalls, the choker…).
We decided to take looks from two of our favorite old childhood movies and recreate them for the present!

One of my all time favorite movies growing up was Xanadu. If you’ve never heard of it, basically Olivia Newton John plays a muse who comes to life to inspire a struggling artist. There is lots of singing, dancing and rollerskating (oh yes, that’s right) which is what sold it for me when I was a kid working on my super awesome rollerskating technique as well as practicing to be an amateur living room dancer. Newton John rocks a lot of off the shoulder in this movie and since this trend has made a big comeback this season, I thought it would be fun to recreate her look!

When I was a kid I watched the movie Now and Then over and over again. Not only did I learn quite a bit from this movie (ahem, about boys), I loved that the characters were so much like myself and my friends. The character I identified with the most was Tina Tercell, better known as Teeny. I didn’t have Teeny’s family drama, but I did share her love of boys, make-up and occasionally stuffed my bra, just for fun. So, for this post, I channeled my inner Teeny with a fun printed tank, bright shorts and a pair of Converse.
