The holiday season is a magical one. Sure the gifting is fun, but for me the real fun is in the anticipation. I love to decorate, take in holiday lights, even bake cookies (which is a surprise for this non-baking girl). One thing in particular I love to do with my boys during the holidays is read Christmas books. Even if it means we read the same book over and over again, night after night, there is so much fun in making bedtime story time festive.
We have a few favorites in our house, and hope to add more. Sure, a Christmas book is best during the holidays, but you can also pull one out in the summer and get a little holiday cheer boost.
Our Favorite Children’s Christmas Books
1. Pig The Elf by Aaron Blabey
I’ll start with our current favorite. We discovered Pig The Pug books after a book fair earlier this year. The first one we bought was Pig The Star and we were hooked.
These books not only keep the boys laughing, they also keep me laughing! I don’t mind reading them over and over again one bit. Pig, in most of his books is a little selfish, and a little greedy, so you can imagine that in this book he is ultra greedy and wants alllllll the things from Santa. In the end he finds that being greedy never wins!
2. A Very Fuddles Christmas by Frans Vischer
We’ve had this book for a few years and love pulling it out at Christmas. We are cat lovers in our house, and we love Fuddles. Fuddles is a chunky pampered kitty, who finds himself outside on Christmas (after getting into typical kitty mischief, like climbing the Christmas tree). He is forced to go on a small adventure, through snow and squirrel fights to find his way back home.
3. The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore
Christmas just isn’t the same without this classic. I don’t need to go into details about this one – I’m sure you know what it’s all about.
On Our List
I love to give books as gifts for the boys, not only for the obvious reasons that it’s great to read and books don’t take up a lot of real estate in the playroom – but also because I know we will make many memories at bedtime with them. I’m currently eyeing How To Catch Santa and Ninja Claus. I’m thinking both will make great Christmas-Eve gifts!
What about you, do you and your children have any favorite Christmas Books?
