Three Classic Spring Outfits

When I think of classic spring outfits I think of a trench coat, neutral blazer, white denim, and denim jackets. In today’s post I’m sharing three outfits with classic spring pieces, all with a petite-friendly fit, from J.Crew.

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Trench Coat

This monochromatic red outfit is a little out of my comfort zone but a step I’m willing to take. I took notes from the reviews and sized down in the pants for the best fit. Even in a size down, the pants are a still a little bit large, but they work. In petite they have a 28.5″ inseam that bunches a little bit on me with a pair of flats. I went with a pointelle cardigan for a monochromatic look, but I think this oxford white top would also look great with it. I chose my classic Icon Trench Coat, but if you want a longer coat, the New Icon Trench is a great choice and still comes in petite sizing.

Denim Jacket

I have had a denim jacket in my wardrobe since I was in high school. There is a classic style that is always in, but over the years trends have come and gone. This year in addition to the classic jacket oversized and cropped styles are trendy. This jacket from J.Crew is a cropped style. It doesn’t come in petite but it’s perfectly proportioned for petites anyway. This makes me think it may run small on you if you’re not petite. For me – it’s a perfect length, fits well through the shoulders and the sleeves are a great length. For reference, I’m wearing it in XXS. I paired it with a pair of mid-rise slouch jeans. These jeans have an oversized, slouchy fit. I went down a size and they are still roomy, but they fit me well through the hips. In petite 23 they have a 9.5″ rise and a 28.5″ inseam. The 28.5″ inseam is a little bit long on me with flats, but it’s mean to be worn bunchy.

Linen Blazer

I love having a linen blazer in my wardrobe for spring and summer. While most linen blazers wrinkle easily – this one is a linen blend and is tightly knit and doesn’t. It has a perfect petite fit, well proportioned through the shoulders and sleeves that end right at my wrist. This blazer comes in white and this soft light tan color that I’m wearing here (flax ivory). The blazer is true to size, for reference I’m wearing it in Petite 00. I paired it with a pair of jeans I loved from last year. They released them again this year and I ordered a new pair just to be sure they have the same fit before I shared them with you, and they do. The jeans run large, so I go down a size for the best fit. In petite 23, the jeans have a 10″ rise and a 24″ inseam. They have a raw hem and thick denim that isn’t see through. In my experience with the jeans, the hem has not overly threaded in the wash.
