I pretty much only style my hair two ways – straight, or loose curls. I’ve mentioned that once before on the blog, when I tried to be creative with my hair for a short time. But my tried and true styles are always a comfort zone for me and I fell back into them. Then I received this High Tide Deep Waver on accident and it forced me outside of my comfort zone.
Amika High Tide Deep Waver
I say on accident, because I was signed up to review Amika’s iRed Polishing Brush, but this waver came in the mail instead. I was a little bummed it came instead of the brush, but decided it was worth giving a try, instead of asking the brand reship it. Then I tried the waver, and it was a total fail. I looked like a wet dog.
Deep Waver Beachy Waves
I let the brand know about the mishap (a little too late of course) and they asked if I was comfortable reviewing the waver instead. I told them I wasn’t sure my waving skills and fine hair would do this tool justice. Considering the first time I tried it my hair was pretty much a hot mess.
How To Use a Deep Waver
That’s when Amika gave me a few tips for using this tool. First, they suggested holding it at an angle, instead of straight across. You better believe I held it straight across on my first try. They also recommended holding my hair under heat a little longer since my fine hair didn’t want to hold the waves.
So I tried again.
This time starting with a good coat of hairspray to give my fine hair some texture and hold. I separated my hair into two sections and applied the waver at an angle, holding each section for 6-7 seconds. (Don’t take that time count to heart and burn your hair please, I may be a fast counter.)
The second try was a deep waver success.
I ultimately liked my waves after giving the tool another try. So I’m thankful that Amika put me up to the challenge (and offered a few tips).
