Fall Outfit Staples

I been shopping, I been shopping. I’ve also been returning and returning. The more I shop, and learn about clothes, the pickier I get about the things that actually get to stay in my closet. If they’re going to stay they need to be great quality, great fit, and versatile. These nine things fit the criteria, and have become my favorites – they are my fall outfit staples.

1. Halogen Long Ribbed Cardigan

This sweater wins for me, because of the fact that it comes in petite. I loved the non-ribbed version of this cardigan last year, and this ribbed version is even better. It holds the pockets in a little better than last year’s version, so it doesn’t add weight to the hip area. Plus, the petite size is a great length on me.

2. J.Crew Velvet Tank Top

I ordered this tank on a whim, not knowing if I would like it or not. Turns out, it’s pretty great. Being velvet, the tank is heavier and warmer, perfect for cooler weather. It is also a really great fit, and not too low cut or too long on my petite frame. It tucks beautifully into pants and skirts, and I really love it paired with the Halogen Long Ribbed Cardigan. Hold out for a sale to get a good price on it!

3. Steve Madden Feather Loafer Flat

The name suites these shoes so well, they are like feathers. I hardly feel like I’m wearing shoes at all when I wear them. They are soft, light, and oh-so comfortable. They’re the only shoe I added to this list, because they go with nearly everything, and are my favorite shoe that I’ve purchased this year. Just be sure to protect them before wearing them.

4. J.Crew Vintage Straight Eco Jean

I read an article earlier this year about J.Crew and their attempts to revamp their brand this year after poor sales last year. Apparently my devotion to the brand isn’t enough to keep them on top. One thing in particular they revamped is their denim. They restructured pockets, and materials to give a better fit for everyone, curvy girls included! So, I was very curious to try a new pair this year. I wanted to get a pair that wasn’t just a skinny jean, so I pre-ordered these straight eco jeans a month in advance. They’re eco because according to J.Crew they’re made in a factory that uses sustainable energy, and they are made with sustainably dyed fabric. Plus, they are a lower price point than traditional J.Crew jeans. I ordered mine 40% off, making them around $50, nearly half of the average $100 price point of their denim. The verdict: they’re perfect! They were a little long on me, so I just cut the darker portion of the jeans off myself (they’re raw hem). They are comfortable, without being overly stretchy, so they hold their shape, and the back pockets are flattering, even on a fuller bottom.

5. Sophie Open Front Sweater Blazer

Ever since receiving this sweater as a birthday present last year, I’ve raved about it. Although it’s an investment, it’s one you won’t regret. It is a true fall outfit staple and something you can wear so many ways. I wear this sweater very often, and it continues to look beautiful and brand new. No piling or loss of shape. You can see it worn here.

6. Tortoise Hoop Earrings

These earrings make me feel like J.Lo and I love it! It’s been quite a while since I’ve worn hoop earrings, but when I saw tortoise hoops trending, I knew I needed a pair. These are a great price and the perfect size.

7. Madewell Medium Transport Tote

This classic bag is perfect year round, made from beautiful soft leather, and as far as bags go – is a great price. I prefer the medium tote over the larger version, as it suits my petite frame better. You can see it worn in this post.

8. J.Crew Tortoise Skinny Headband

Hair accessories are trending, and while I haven’t broken out my old claw just yet, I did quickly add this little headband to my fall wardrobe. I’ve worn it pretty much every day since I purchased it, and love it! It doesn’t make your head hurt, and is the prettiest little touch.

9. Corduroy Mini Skirt

I tried on many corduroy skirts before settling on the J.Crew Factory version. For the price point, it is the best quality and fit. I sized up one size for my hips, which made the waist a little large on me, but it isn’t an issue. I own both the golden brandy and the burgundy, dare I saw it, the golden brandy is my favorite! See it worn here.
