I love my hair, don’t get me wrong. It gets lots of compliments: on the length, the curls and the color – but I struggle with how fine and thin it is. I love that I can curl it up and feel pretty, but I can’t pull my hair into a pony tail without revealing my scalp. So, I always wear my hair down. The part is also deep in the back, not something you would see in photos on the blog, but in real life it bothers me.

Amika Thicc Volumizing Base
But, there is always a but, I recently tried a product with promise for my fine thin hair. Amika: Thicc Volumizing Base creates instant volume and thickness, but it also contains Redensyl™ to support long-term hair growth and reduction of hair loss. Sounds promising on the label, and I’ve been using it for a few weeks to give it a good review with results and best use practices.

How to Use Amika: Thicc
First time I used the product, I used way too much. My hair ended up waxy. I saw this same result from a review on Sephora, I wanted to tell her to try again, the secret is to just use less product. I take a pea size amount in my hands, and rub it together, spreading the product on my hands. Then I put it in the back of my hair first, so it doesn’t go on too heavy around my hairline. I rub it all around root to tip.

Blow Dry
Next, I pull out the blow dryer. I first do a messy blow dry tilting my hair from side to side.

I was also attacked by my kitten in the making of this post – he cray.

Once my hair is mostly dry, I separate it into two sections and finish drying with a round brush.

This is my end result with just a blow out!

Most days I wear my hair just like this, but if I have more time I curl it with my CHI curler for more volume and bounce.

The end result! Overall I like Amika’s thickening cream, but there are a few draw backs for me. I’ll give you my pros and cons in a nutshell:

Pros
- My hair is fuller and heavier.
- The style tends to stay in my hair longer, and my part will stay put in the back, keeping it from parting too deep.
- I can’t attest to its hair growth capabilities since I just started using it, but I find that part interesting.
- By some miracle, my scalp shows less when I pull my hair back after using Thicc.
Cons
- My hairs feels heavier, I put this as a pro, but it’s also somewhat of a con. I don’t feel like my hair is as light and bouncy when I use the volumizing base.
- My hair feels a little bit drier. My hair tends to be pretty silky on its own, so it’s not horrible on my hair, but I think you can see in the photos that it looks more dry than usual.

I’m going to keep using this product until it’s empty. I do like the style holding capabilities and am really interested to see if it promotes hair growth, I’ll keep you posted!
Do you have any favorite volumizing products.
I was gifted by Amika for an honest review.
