There is this movie I watched to memorization growing up called “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken.” The story is about a young orphaned girl, Sonora, who in order to avoid being placed in an orphanage, runs away from her foster home and eventually joins up with a horse and rider diving team. If you don’t know what this is, waaaaay back in the day (like the late 1800’s/early 1900’s) there was an attraction where a horse was sent up a very tall ramp and a girl, waiting at the top, would jump on the horse as he ran by just before leaping off the edge down into a pool of water. Crazy stuff. So this chickie has the opportunity to be the “new diving girl” and she eventually becomes the star, until a diving accident causes her to go blind. Of course in the movie everyone believes this to be a career ender but she perseveres, learns how to dive blind and continues on as a diving girl for many more years. Your typical feel good movie. What I always loved about it is that it’s a story of a girl who did not take no for an answer. The whole movie people keep telling her she couldn’t do something and she would prove them wrong because she had the attitude that “she could do anything.” I think that is such a great attitude to have and I try myself to keep this sort of mindset when I face something that I might consider to be a challenge.
This dress made me think of this movie because when I wear it I feel wild, free and ready to take on the world…just like Sonora.
