Nowadays my little one is up and running so I have had to tailor my workout routine to things that better incorporate her new skills. The best thing about working out with your baby, is that their weight is constantly increasing, which forces you to push yourself further each and every day.
First, its always important to start out with some light cardio to warm up…
Once you’ve wrangled in that mini, you’re ready to workout! π
Mini Reverse Squats
Grab your cute mini’s hands and assume the squat position, taking care to make sure you are sitting back deep and your knees are not crossing over your toes. Push yourself halfway up in slow controlled pulses. Count aloud to your mini for a total of 10 reps. Take a short “cardio” break and repeat once more.
Sneaking A Smooch Bicep Curls
Grab your little one under their armpits, and bring yourself to a standing position, legs shoulder width apart. Starting with your arms at a 90-degree angle, curl that little cutie up until you are face to face (where you can then sneak a smooch!) then lower back down to the starting position. Complete with a total of 10 reps then move straight onto “Baby Core Twists.”
Baby Core Twists
From your same position, twist your little wiggly weight from side to side, making sure to keep your core engaged the entire time. Complete for a total of 10 reps (each side). Take a moment to get down with your bad selves for a mini dance party before repeating “Sneaking A Smooch” and “Baby Core Twists” once more or skip to my lou onto the the move!
Tricep Seesaw
*This move is best for toddlers who have very stable body control.
Regroup to the floor by putting your feet on the floor shoulder width apart and your workout coach on your lap facing you. Lean your weight back, placing your palms on the floor behind you, fingers pointed inward with a bend in your elbows. Keeping your weight in your palms, slowly push yourself off of the floor by straightening your arms. Lower yourself back down to where your butt only slightly touches the ground with elbows bent then press back up again. Repeat this movement a total of 10 times, taking care to monitor your workout partner to make sure he/she doesn’t teeter-totter off the side.
Row Your Boat
With your workout buddy in your lap, lift your feet off the floor and come to a boat position. Holding onto your mini, rock yourself onto your back and then back up to starting position. Complete to the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” singing along with your coach (should get about 4 reps per song). Repeat the song 2-3 times.
Don’t forget to stretch…
Finishing up your routine with a few stretches is just as important as warming up. Play a game of London Bridge while sneaking in a downward facing dog or get your little one to help out as you sit on the floor and fall forward for a back stretch.
Hope you enjoy doing this workout as much as I do with my mini. Grab a printable/pinnable version of the mommy and me workout below!
Also, can we please talk about how much I love these bracelets from Pura-Vida?!
I instantly loved what they did for my simple workout outfit from the moment I put them on. If you haven’t heard of them before, Pura-Vida, “pure life,” was named for the Costa Rican philosophy of appreciating life’s simple treasures, slowing down, celebrating good fortune and refusing to take anything for granted. All bracelets are handcrafted in Costa Rica and the company is committed to giving back to those in need all over the world, including 190 charities and 1% of their net revenue going towards environmental organizations. I love companies that embrace the world and play a part in trying to make it a better place. So not only do they have awesome bracelets (seriously I want all of them) but they are good people too. It’s nice when you know your money is going towards bettering the life of others. I had always seen these bracelets and had heard the name but didn’t really know what they were about. Now that I know, I am a fan for life.
Are there any do-good companies that you stand by?
