Fall Boots Series: Outfits for Work with Boots

I initially set out to make my fall boots guide one post but after putting some thought into the amount of requests and questions I’ve had that go in so many different directions, I decided this was best done as a series. So over the next few posts I’ll be taking a different style of boots and styling them different ways and answering your most common questions about them. First up, what boots do I wear to work?

My Sizing: I’m 4’10” and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″ and 36″. My typical inseam is 24-25″. The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online.

I focused on pants for this post, but you can also opt for knee high boots (more on that in another post) and a longer dress or skirt for work. When it comes to wearing boots to work I personally prefer them with full-length pants. The pants can be wide-leg, flare, or full-length straight. Ankle pants are great, but I think they look best with a shoe that shows some skin like a ballet flat, pump or loafer. Full-length pants not only look good, they’re going to keep you warmer as well. When choosing a pair of boots I would go for a pair that’s similar in shape to the heels we’re used to seeing with dress pants. So think of a slim boot rather than the casual styles with chunky stacked heels. For this post I chose two pairs of pointed toe stiletto boots. You can choose a pair with a lower heel and also with a thicker heel if you would like, but a pointed slim toe is going to give you the most leg length. Here you’ll find a lower heel option, a waterproof option, and a wide option.

Black Pants

In the first two outfits I opted for a pair of bootcut pants from Ann Taylor. I bought these pants last year and have loved them ever since. They fit true to size and are a great petite length. I paired them with a layered cardigan look in one outfit and with a beautiful petite-friendly coat from Banana Republic Factory in the next.

Tan Trousers

If you’re the exact same size as me, you may find these trousers from Express to be a little bit too big. I went with 0 short in this pair and they’re a little bit roomy and just barely graze the ground, but I felt there were still a great option to share in case you’re a tiny bit taller or want to do a little hemming. I paired them with a reversible wrap in one outfit and a simple puff sleeve sweater in the next.
