Petite-Friendly Coats

Coats are kind of like jeans for Petites – it can be really hard to find a good fit. I’ve tried different brands, but I predominately land back on my old favorite, J.Crew. Their coats are the absolute best in terms of fit and quality. However, I’ve also found coats at Abercrombie, and if you don’t mind a little bit of extra sleeve length H&M sometimes works as well. Today I’m sharing four coats, two I bought recently and two I bought last year – all with a great petite fit.

Petite-Friendly Coats

Sizing Reference: I’m 4’10” and around 105lbs. I’m typically a size Petite XXS/00/24 but I will share my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online.

J. Crew Daphne Coat

The Daphne Topcoat is true to size and unlined. So, it’s a lighter jacket, but the boiled wool is still warm. One thing that surprised me when the coat came in the mail is the texture. I couldn’t see that in the pictures online, but the wool is a little bit bumpy. I’m wearing it in Petite 00. I included this coat in my capsule wardrobe if you want to see more ways to wear it.

J.Crew Chateau Parka

The Chateau Parka is my favorite coat and the one I would recommend buying if you want just one coat that will work with all temps and outfits. It is fully lined and warm. It has an interior pocket as well as four front pockets. The fur on the hood is detachable and the hood is a little bit oversized. The bottom of this coat flares out a little bit, giving the coat a slight bell shape. I sized up in this coat to Petite 0.

J.Crew Cocoon Puffer

I bought this lightweight puffer coat this year because I wanted a coat for in-between seasons. The Cocoon Puffer is lightweight so I wouldn’t grab this for a cold winter, but it makes for a great fall or mild winter coat. The sleeves are a tad short on this coat, so if you have longer arms, you may prefer the fit of regular over petite. I sized up in this coat to Petite XS.

Abercrombie Blazer Coat

Abercrombie coats tend to run a little big on me, but if you’re ok with a little extra room, I think they’re a great option. The Blazer Coat is oversized on me in Petite XXS. The sleeves come down over my hands, I have them cuffed under in the picture. It’s a heavyweight blazer that you can wear with leggings, and jeans, and to work. If you want to see it worn more ways, check out this 10 Items 20 Outfits post from last winter.

I have a thick puffer from J.Crew as well that’s not currently available on their site. It’s the warmest coat I own and great for cold winters. I’ll be keeping an eye on their site for the arrivals of their warmer winter coats to share.
