A classic wool coat is the perfect finishing touch to your winter outfit. You can wear them with anything; dressing up a pair of leggings with sneakers or adding a little polish to your work wardrobe. This season, with the trend being oversized, many coats are roomy and long – but I found a few options that balance the trend and fit for petites that I think you’ll love.

Petite-Friendly Wool Coats
My Sizing: I’m 4’10” and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″ and 36″. My typical inseam is 24-25″. The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. Unless otherwise noted, I find the items to fit true to size.
J.Crew Mirabelle Coat
I’m starting with the coat that I think has the best fit overall, the Mirabelle Topcoat from J.Crew. This coat is a wool and cashmere blend and is fully lined – it’s beautiful. I find it to be true to size overall, fitting me well through the shoulders with great sleeve length. The sleeves are a little bit slim, so if you want more room for layering I would suggest trying a size up. I couldn’t resist the gorgeous holiday red, but this coat also comes in black, camel, and light blue.

J.Crew Factory Lady Day Coat
The Lady Day Coat from J.Crew Factory also has a perfect fit. This coat is pulled in at the waist and bells out at the bottom. It fits well through the shoulders and sleeves. The J.Crew Factory version is about half the price of the J.Crew coat. Comparing the two, the fit is the same, but the J.Crew coat has dark buttons that are covered, instead of the gold buttons on the factory version. The J.Crew coat is wool and polyamide, while the factory coat is a wool and polyester blend. Just like the Mirabelle Topcoat, this coat has slim sleeves, so you may want to size up if you want more room through the sleeves. I also love this Boucle version of the Lady Day Coat.

Banana Republic Factory Classic Coat
What I love about the Classic Coat from Banana Republic Factory, is the shorter length and classic fit. I chose ivory, but this coat also comes in black. This coat fits me well in my true size Petite 00/XXS, but it does not fit as closely as the J.Crew coats, and the sleeves are a bit longer.

Abercrombie Tailored Topcoat
The last coat in my lineup is the Tailored Topcoat from Abercrombie. This coat has the most room and the longest sleeves out of all of the styles I’ve shared, but it fits well enough that I felt it was still worth including. I think it has a nice balance of the trendy long oversized fit, while still being petite-friendly. I love that this coat comes in several color options. I’m wearing it in Petite XXS here.
