Last winter I posted my first round-up of truly warm winter coats for petites. The coats in that post are still excellent options, but some have started to sell out. So, I created an updated guide for this season. The coats in this post are not the cheapest options around but they’re petite-friendly and will perform in cold wet weather. I focused on coats in this post, but I will be sharing petite-friendly base layers, boots, and snowsuits in a future post.
Side Note: I can wear kids sizing and it is a great way to save some money so definitely check out those options for coats and snow pants if you share the same proportions as me. For my reviews I focus on adult sizing to share options for all petites.

Petite-Friendly Winter Coats
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Petite-Friendly Winter Coat Brands
In this review I focused on coats from Aritzia and L.L. Bean. But in the past I’ve also had good luck with petite coats from Athleta, and Land’s End, and regular sizing at North Face, and Columbia. So, if these aren’t a good option for you, I recommend checking out those brands for more.
Aritzia Super Puff
The Super Puff coat comes in different lengths and styles – but they’re all constructed with true winter performance in mind. The Super Puff is the warmest coat I’ve ever worn. I haven’t had temperatures low enough to test this, but Aritzia rates this coat to keep you warm down to -22°F. It’s thick, but doesn’t feel overly heavy. I feel like this coat truly blocks wind. I’m wearing a water-resistant CliMATTE style in the mid and shorty style, but it also comes in a waterproof Rainstop option. To note the waterproof options are not as warm as the CliMATTE styles. They’re rated to keep you warm down to -4°F. The hood is removable and also cinchable around your face. There are warm hand covers as well, that loop around your thumbs.
If you prefer a style that cinches at the waist, The Super Puff also comes in a snug style that gives some shape and all styles come in several color options.
I find the coat to run large in both styles, so I went down a size and love the fit. It’s fitted with enough room to layer warm sweaters under. For reference, I’m wearing both styles in XXS.

L.L. Bean Ultrawarm 3/4 Coat
The Ultrawarm 3/4 coat from L.L. Bean feels lightweight, but will keep you warm. It’s petite, so the sleeves are a perfect length for me. The coat is roomy through the body, so if you prefer a little shape, this coat isn’t for you. Some of the coats at L.L. Bean go down to Petite XXS, but this one only goes down to Petite XS. If I had the option I would try a size down. The hood is removable as well as the fur trim around the hood.

L.L. Bean Popham Puffer Coat
If you live in an ultra-cold area, you may love this full-length option. The Popham Puffer Coat from L.L. Bean is a well-proportioned full-length option for petites. The coat has the same lightweight feel as the 3/4 length, but is one that will keep you warm. This coat comes in a Petite XXS option which is a better overall fit for me, and I find it to be true to size overall. It has a zipper and button closure with zipper pockets. It doesn’t have hand covers and the hood isn’t removable on this coat.
