Here I go talking about jeans again, but for good reason – jeans tend to be where my biggest fit issues lie. I’m petite, and pear shaped, so not only do I have issues with the length of my jeans, I also have issues with the hips, thighs, and backside. Through extensive research, (a.k.a., frequent shopping trips), I’ve nailed down what to look for, to find the pair with the best fit. So, if you’re a petite pear shaped gal like me – here’s to hoping my tips can help you too.
Petite Pear Shape Friendly Jeans
When it comes to what I look for in a good pair of jeans, I look at the inseam, pocket placement, rise, and color.
Petite Friendly Inseam
On my 4’10” frame, not all inseams are created equal. I’ve tried on plenty of jeans that were petite, that were still too long for me. So, I got to know my inseam. For me a 24″ inseam is perfect! Any longer and I’ll be hemming, doing a little DIY raw hem, or strictly wearing the jeans with boots. Ankle jeans have been proving to be a perfect length for me these days.
Pocket Placement
The placement and size of pockets can make your backside look fuller, wider, or smaller. So, these tips will work depending on what you’re trying to create. A small pocket, placed high, will give a fuller look – which is not what I’m going for. I look for jeans with a full pocket, that is placed right over the middle of the backside – if that makes sense. If we’re talking brands: Madewell, LOFT, and J.Crew do a really great job with their pockets. Old Navy and AE jeans tend to have higher pockets.
Rise
The high-waisted trend can prove to be a challenge for petites. I tried on several high-rise jeans, until I realized it was really the mid-rise jeans that I needed. Most mid-rise jeans are about 9″, which is perfect for me. High-rise jeans tend to be 10-11″ and that’s pretty much past my belly button/my whole mid-section and not a good look. A mid-rise on a petite frame, will give the high-waisted look, without being too high.
Color
I will wear lighter jeans, but I feel the most confident in a darker pairm, because darker jeans slim the legs. I personally love a pair that is dark, but not flat dark. Like the pair above, I prefer a little whiskering and variation in the wash.
Shop The Post
I’m currently in love with Madewell jeans, but there are many other brands I appreciate. You can find more posts about shopping and styling jeans here, here, and here.
