I’ve searched high and low over the years for winter coats that not only fit well – but truly keep you warm. I’ll give you a little spoiler alert – the best winter coats for petites come from J.Crew.
J.Crew coats aren’t the cheapest coats around, but winter coats in general are often investment type items for your wardrobe. I like to chose coats that are timeless, beautifully made, and seriously warm. Here are my favorites and how they fit petites.
Petite Friendly Winter Coats
The Chateau Parka
I own a chateau parka in both green and gray, and I love them both equally. My gray coat is a regular 00 and my green coat is a petite 0. I bought the gray version last year and felt that the petite version was too tight in the shoulders, so I opted for the regular size, but sized down. However, this year I decided to try the petite version in my true size, because I think it looks better overall in terms of length. I found that although the shoulders felt tight at first, they quickly stretch out with wear and make for a perfect fit.

This coat is warm, but it’s not the warmest coat I own. I like that it can be dressed up and down. I also love all of the beautiful colors it comes in – J.Crew knows how to do colors! I highly recommend grabbing this coat on sale, which happens often around the holidays.

Chateau Puffer
Then there’s the coat that I pull out when I want to be WARM! This coat is so incredibly thick, puffy and warm. Being petite, most puffers are overwhelming, but I appreciate that this one comes in petite. I actually bought this in the kid’s size XL because it’s basically identical to the women’s version and a little cheaper. On sale I paid $70 for this coat, and it’s such great quality, I know it will last me many cold winters. I also own this kids puffer from J.Crew (size 14) that I’ve spent many winters playing in the snow in and love it! My version doesn’t have the colored fur around the hood, but that is detachable.

The red version is sold out in kids, but I saw there were still some available in women’s! If you’re not into the red, this coat also comes in a few other beautiful colors. The black kids version is currently around $60!

Cocoon Coat
The cocoon coat is another great option from J.Crew. It comes in lots of colors and has a great petite fit. It doesn’t have a hood, and the fit is a little boxy, but the coat overall has a more dressed up look. I’m wearing this one in petite 0.

Perfect Raincoat
I know I said this post was about winter coats, but for those of you who have mild winters, with a lot of rain – this raincoat is perfect! It also comes in a few different colors, but I love its petite fit. I like wearing this black one on days that it’s not raining even, it makes a great topper for leggings!
