Just a Hot Mess in a Dress & Oh, Hey Girl! Link-Up

Monday started off with sunshine and excitement. Then it all went downhill from there. Why the excitement? It was my son’s last Monday of Kindergarten and also his spring fling. He goes to the very same elementary school I went to and spring fling was one of my favorite days. There is all of the end of the year excitement, you do relay races, water games, and just have a ton of fun. Back in my day they didn’t have the big bouncy inflatables, but times have changed and there are several of those now. As soon as I saw parents were invited too, I couldn’t wait to experience it with him!

I dropped him off at school, and promised to be “right back” that I just needed to do a few things at the house – and for some reason I assumed that spring fling was an all day event. What started with a few things turned into several things, followed by shutting the cat’s tail in the garage door on my way out. Running late – cause trauma to the cat, like I can’t with myself sometimes. We have two cats; one named Bush and one named Professor. As I’m pulling out of the driveway I notice Bush  sniffing at a little tail piece sticking out of the garage door. I’m like oh my gracious I done shut the Professor’s tail in the garage door. I open it up, and poor Professor is flailing all around with a limp tail. He’s my boo – so I tried to talk it out with him, give him a few pets and calm him down. Instead, he runs off to the tree line to hide. Of course I felt awful so I spent some time trying to coax him out, but time was passing and I didn’t want to disappoint my littlest at school, so I had to just go. Strike one for the day.

Little did I know, the disappointing had already been done. I show up to the school only to realize the spring fling was over. I MISSED IT! Talk about feeling like a big ol’ mom failure. I’m not sure why it never occurred to me to ask when the kindergarteners were doing spring fling, like big hand to the face. I can only hope he had so much fun, he didn’t notice I wasn’t there, but I’m pretty certain I let him down. Strike two.

So, when I sat down Monday to write this post ( instead of enjoying the spring fling like I thought I would) I thought about writing about this pretty little dress and everything I love about it, but the pictures tell that story. Instead I decided to just let you guys in on the hot mess I really am. One, for a good laugh, and two, to show a side of me that is far from perfect. We’ve all said it before, blogging, social media, the whole deal, puts on this pretty as a picture front of our lives. I’ve had people tell me time and time again that I seem to just have it all together; I’m always well dressed, my house is beautiful, they love my blog – all the wonderful compliments you would want to hear. While those compliments are so sweet, and I appreciate each and every one of them, appearances aren’t always what they seem. The reality is I’m always running around like a chicken with my head cut off, running late and forgetting things. I’m really just a hot mess, in a dress.

For what it’s worth, the Professor is ok, he crept the tree line with a hurt tail and hurt feelings for a little while, but he came back around. He still had it in him to find his way to my lap at the dinner table and beg for food. That baby of mine – he’s just fine too, he came out of school on Monday, with a big smile and told me about his awesome day. Turns out, he didn’t care for mom to be crashing his party anyway.

Now I’m off to go cut the grass and hopefully not rip the front wheel off of the rim like I did last week. I’m telling ya’, I’m really great at a lot of things, haha!
