One night last fall when the hubs was making dinner, he used this pan to bake BBQ chicken. I wouldn’t normally have used this pan, especially without foil (back in my pre-glass baking dish days), but I wasn’t about to rag on the help. Later, during the process of trying to scrub off burnt sauce and chicken, much the non-stick coating came off along with it, basically making this pan unsafe for any future cooking use. Instead of tossing it, I set it aside, knowing I could find a way to bring it new life. This week, using some leftover gold spray paint I had in my crafting box along with a few other supplies, I was able to turn this ruined baking pan into a decorative tray for my living room!
What you’ll need
Primer
Colored Paint
Glaze
Sanding block/paper
Dropcloth, gloves & dust mask

Directions
*As with any project involving spray paint, make sure you do this outside or in a well-ventilated area.*
1. Clean pan to remove any residual grease. Apparently vinegar works pretty well in place of a degreaser.
2. Sand the entire pan to create a surface the paint can adhere to and wipe clean to remove any dust.
3. Spray with 2-3 coats of primer base, waiting a couple of minutes between each coat. I sprayed the top and sides first, then once that was dried, flipped it to spray the bottom of the pan.
4. Next step is to spray the pan down with colored paint, in the same fashion as the primer. Since this was the presentable layer, I waited about 30 minutes before flipping the pan to paint the bottom.
5. Once completely painted, finish off project with protective glaze layer. I sprayed the top with two coats then waited about an hour before spraying the bottom.
6. Let sit for a bit (an hour or more if you can) before relocating to a spot indoors to finish setting. Allow 24 hours to completely dry before handling.
While I had the gold spray, I did have to purchase the primer and gloss in order to complete this particular project. Both the primer and the gloss will come in handy for various projects to keep stuff out of the landfill and I have a plan for how to up-cycle these spray cans when I am finished with them down the road.
Happy crafting!

This looks great! What a fun idea to reuse the pan. I hate just tossing things like that and I love the way you’ve styled it!
What a great idea! I have a few old baking sheets that could use this little makeover!
I love upcycled projects! Great use for this pan.
ME TOO!! I’m like unless its legitimate garbage, I refuse to throw it away. Thank you so much for coming by!
Oooo yes! Let me know if you do it. 🙂
Thanks doll!
