I’m starting to round up ideas for my spring capsule wardrobes. I’m planning to do both a casual capsule and a workwear capsule like I do in the fall. Much like my winter workwear capsule, I’m starting off with a mini series of workwear to testing out a few pieces for versatility – and also to see if you, my lovely readers – like the items. I’ll never be able to please every single person out there, but I try my best to please the majority. So, after my winter workwear capsule that was heavy on wide-leg pants, I’ve had many requests for something other than wide-leg. For this short series I’ll be styling three ankle styles in this light taupe/neutral color, blue, and black. For my full capsule, I’m thinking I’m going to include an ankle style like the ones I used for this series, but also a wide-leg style. Stay tuned for the full capsule I plan to have it pulled together in March!

Spring Outfits for Work: Neutral Pants Four Ways
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Stretch Cotton Ankle Pants
I find the best petite pants at Ann Taylor. While J.Crew holds the spot for the best blazers, Ann Taylor dominates the pants realm. The pair I chose for this post is a stretch cotton style. They’re a machine washable cotton rayon blend that has a slim fit overall. They are true to size, but they do loosen and stretch with wear (typical of mostly cotton items). They have a 26″ inseam in petite which comes to the top of my foot (not a true ankle length on me). If you’re looking for a pair that doesn’t stretch and wrinkle with wear I also love this option from Ann Taylor. I included them in my spring capsule wardrobe last year.
With a Matching Blazer
I saw this combination on the Ann Taylor website and had to try it. I love the matching moment and the shape of the blazer/jacket. It is overall true to size, but is a little bit roomy on me through the shoulders and chest. The sleeves are a little bit long on me, so I wore them as is so you could see the true fit. This is one I would have the sleeves shortened, wear them pushed back, or cuff them under.

With a Cardigan
I bought this skimming cardigan at Abercrombie. It has a unique shape and the sweater is a thick knit that is comfortable stretchy. It also looks great worn buttoned, but is too low-cut for me to wear without a top underneath. I’m wearing it in XXS and find it to fit true to size. I styled this outfit with heels, but it would also look great with flats.

With a Short Sleeve Sweater
I think a short sleeve sweater makes a great staple for your spring and summer work wardrobe. It’s a simple outfit, but is polished and looks pulled together. Although I’m wearing a trench coat with this outfit, I’m obviously not going to wear the coat indoors. The sweater is true to size and in XXS land at the hip.

With a Blazer
I used this camel blazer in my fall and winter workwear capsule. Not to be repetitive, but I’m thinking of also including it in the spring capsule to show how it can be worn through all seasons. It’s an investment piece, but it has a perfect fit and the quality is unmatched. I paired it here with a linen button down top and ballet flats.
