There are a few catalogs I always browse through when they come in the mail, one of those being the Nordstrom catalog. Last month I was looking through the latest catalog when I came across a new brand, 1901. Although 1901 was previously just menswear, they recently released a line for women that is full of timeless style and classic pieces. I snapped a picture of a dress and sent it to my Trunk Club stylist Abby to send in my next trunk. She caught my vibe and also caught onto my style a bit because this month’s Trunk was spot on in terms of my style preference! Here’s what I thought about what was inside:

Spring Trunk Club Review

1. 1901 Ruffle Fit & Flare Midi Dress

Trunk Club Review - 1901 Pleat Collar ShirtdressFirst up, a dress by 1901 that was very similar to the picture I sent Abby. This dress made me feel like Belle from Beauty and the Beast. It’s a beautiful vibrant yellow, fully lined, very well made, and…it has pockets! It’s every bit of perfection in a dress. The downside for me – it’s just too big. I knew it was a long shot asking for a midi length dress that didn’t come in petite, but you never know until you try! The dress also comes in other colors if you’re not feeling the bright yellow. I was very tempted to keep it and have it altered, but it was just very big overall on me, so I knew the alterations would end up being the cost of the dress and not worth it. Someone else that’s taller, please buy this dress and wear it for my sake – if it fit me, I would have bought it in a heart beat.

2. 1901 Pleat Collar Shirtdress & Sam Edelman Odila Sandal
A Review of my recent trunk from Trunk Club - Brooke of Pumps & Push-Ups

This dress obviously needs to be ironed, but I was the most excited to try it on. I’ve been looking for a classic shirtdress and the pleats on this one make it extra sweet. It’s not midi length, so the length ended up being great for me. However, the dress was pretty big up top for me. The fit strikes again. 1901 Pleat Collar Shirtdress

I think this dress would be great for someone with a larger chest, but on me, I was just swimming in it. I noticed online that 1901 does carry petites in certain items, but I haven’t noted any of the dresses to be petite. If they ever start adding petites, I will be excited to try them again!

The Sam Edelman heels were beautiful, and really matched my skin tone well. I already own a very similar pair, so I couldn’t justify keeping them. However, I will say, they were padded and soft on the toe strap, which made for a comfortable fit.

3. J. Crew Embroidered Dress & Rebecca Minkoff Bree Circle Crossbody BagRebecca Minkoff Bree Circle Crossbody Bag

Finally, something in petite! One thing my stylist apologized for is the lack of petites through Trunk Club. I keep having fit issues with what comes in my Trunk, but she has been trying to send me items that are on the smaller size. This J. Crew dress was in petite, and was one I’ve actually been eyeing online for a little while now. I was originally thinking of buying it in white, but the coral is beautiful and bright! Typical of J. Crew, the dress is well made and is lined. I really loved this, but I think I would rather have it in white and also one size up. This dress was actually a little tight in the waist on me.

The Bree Circle Crossbody bag was my favorite thing in the trunk. It’s beautiful, soft and on trend. My only struggle over it is that fact that I really don’t need another bag right now.

4. CeCe Off the Shoulder Ruffle Sweater & Madewell Frisco Denim Miniskirt

Madewell Frisco Miniskirt - Trunk Club Review

Marc Fisher Wedges

I used to wear denim miniskirts all of the time when I was in high school, so they bring back good memories for me. This one by Madewell is so cute, but y’all, it barely covers my behind. This 30-year-old mom of two just wouldn’t look cute running around in this thing.

The off the shoulder sweater is also another really cute thing that just doesn’t fit my lifestyle. I’ve pretty much given up on buying off the shoulder tops because I never wear them. I still have some from last year that I made exceptions for and they just sit in my closet unworn. The sweater is cropped, which I liked and tucks beautifully into a skirt!

I loved this outfit and I wanted to love this top. Not only did it look good tucked into this skirt (and probably other skirts), it has embroidered blush polka dots and ruffle sleeves. Oh the sweetness. However, the wrap front would not stay closed on me. I had to stand strategically to keep the wrap together for the pictures. If you’re handy with a needle and thread I bet you could add a little hook closure to keep it together and it would be perfect!

J. Crew Twist Front Cami - summer yellow stripes

6. J. Crew Twist Front Cami

Trunk Club Review - J. Crew Cami Top

Just a simple summer cami, with everything you would expect from J. Crew. It is well made, not see through one bit and the straps are adjustable. It worked well on my bust (which is not very busty at all) so if you’re bigger up top, it may not be the best fit. For me, it ended up being a no, simply because the tie in the front stuck out all crazy – I knew I wouldn’t wear it enough.

7. Skylines Halter Midi Dress

Halter Dress for summer - trunk club review

Another pretty dress, that wasn’t a pretty fit. It would be beautiful on someone taller, it is fully lined and really well made. I thought the little peephole in the back was cute, but as you can see on me, it puckered in the back a lot. I’m pretty certain it’s because I’m just too short for the dress.

Review of Trunk Club a Nordstrom Company

Review of styling service by Trunk Club

Honorable Mentions

There were two other items in my trunk that I didn’t photograph. One of those being an eyelet skirt by J.O.A. This skirt in pictures was everything I had been looking for, but on, it was so see through I wouldn’t even take a picture of it. The next item was a Handkerchief Hem Skirt that was too similar to a skirt I just purchased I didn’t even bother taking it out of its packaging.

How Trunk Club Works

If you haven’t read my other posts on Trunk Club, I’ll give you a quick run down. Trunk Club is a styling service, that you can choose to receive trunks monthly, or whenever you would like! The trunks can be themed (like activewear, date night, or brand specific)or just wardrobe building. Trunk Club is a Nordstrom company, so everything in the trunks is also a brand Nordstrom carries. If you have a Nordstrom Card linked to your account, the styling fee is waived, otherwise the fee is $25.00 and can be applied to any purchase from your trunk. Your stylist will send you a little preview of your trunk in the app prior to shipping. From there you can take items out and request other items. Once your trunk arrives, you try everything on and keep what you like. They provide the shipping label and even the tape in the box to send back what you don’t love. You schedule the return shipping in your app and UPS will come pick up the package, on your schedule. It’s so easy and a great way to try things on before buying them.

I still love the service, even though I continue to have issues with the fit of items that are sent. I think my stylist is really catching on to my style and is introducing me to things I wouldn’t have necessarily chosen for myself.
