If you’re looking for some direction in building a timeless wardrobe foundation for spring – this post is for you!
Today I’m sharing my personal foundational items for a spring wardrobe. If you look back through my posts you’ll see that these items often appear over and over again. Nail down these basics, and all you need is a few fun tops, maybe a dress depending on your style and your wardrobe is complete. I’ll also be sharing a few options for each staple.

Straight Jeans
If you’re not into straight jeans, skinny jeans work also. If you’re looking for a staple pair I recommend one without distressing so it can be easily dressed up and down, but that’s also up to your style preference. I’ll link my exact pair in this photo, but also share a few other petite-friendly options below. My exact pair runs a little bit short, if you’re taller than me (I’m 4’10”), you may want the regular length instead of petite.

Neutral Sandals and Flats
My most worn shoes for spring are these flats, sandals, and heeled sandals. If you wanted to add just one more style that’s a little more dressed up, you can go with a clear strap sandal like this pair. I’ll share a few options below to suit your style.

White or Tan Bag
If you’re only going to have one bag for the season (which is really my personal favorite thing to do) I recommend a white bag for spring and summer. It will go well with nearly every single outfit. If not a white bag, a tan or nude bag works well too.

Neutral Layering T-Shirt
When it comes to a layering t-shirt, I wear a white t-shirt the most, but I also often wear striped t-shirts. If black or gray is more your style, that works well too.

White Sneakers
I’ve always had a white pair of sneakers in my wardrobe, but this year I’ve really been loving on them even more. They’re not only comfortable, but they also go with everything from shorts, and jeans to dresses.

Trench Coat
If spring in your area calls for a light jacket, I like having a trench coat on hand. If it’s water-resistant, that’s even better. Helps protect you during those rainy spring days, but it also elevates just about any outfit. However, if your style is really more on the casual side, you may prefer to just have a light rain jacket instead. I’ll share options for both below.

Denim Jacket
I wear my denim jackets the most with colored denim (white and black), colored shorts, and dresses. You can wear them with blue jeans, but I prefer the contrast of different colored bottoms. Since I tend to wear a lot of dresses in the spring and summer, I wear this a lot and have had one in my closet since high school!

White Jeans
I also always have a pair of white jeans on hand, but I think this is another staple that is individual. You may not be comfortable in white denim and that’s ok! But in case you’re like me and like having a pair on hand, below are a few of my favorite pairs.

Blazer
A blazer is also something I always have in my closet for dressing up outfits. I don’t think you need a huge collection, you can choose a nice neutral white or navy and wear it with just about everything.

Of course, there are lots of other fun things to add to your wardrobe, but these are my most worn foundational items. Come summer, I’ll add in shorts and drop the jackets (except the denim one).
