Summer and layers aren’t always something that goes together. However, not everywhere stays scorching hot morning to night and some of us (myself included) tend to run a little cold. So, if you’re someone who needs a layer during the summer, here are four of my favorites to wear.

Summer Layering
My Sizing: I’m 4’10” and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″ and 36″. My typical inseam is 24-25″. The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online.
For this post, I used the same top and bottom for each outfit. The post will help you see different layers, but also how each one and different shoes and accessories can transform a simple white t-shirt and shorts outfit. Fit-wise, the top runs small, I’m wearing it in XS. This top is slightly cropped, so it’s a great length for tucking in without a lot of extra bulk. It’s also not see-through at all. The shorts have a high rise, rigid denim, and slits on the side for extra thigh room. I sized up in the shorts for comfort to a size 25.

Button Down Top
My personal favorite summer layer is a button-down top. I wear this combination over and over again. The top is lightweight enough that you don’t melt in the heat, but also keeps you covered for the indoor A/C. The top I’m wearing in this outfit has an oversized fit in Petite XS.

Linen Blazer
Since my shorts are distressed, I wouldn’t consider this to be super dressed up, but more of a blend. I chose low heel sandals and a casual straw clutch to keep the outfit overall casual. The blazer has a great fit in Petite ( I wear it in Petite 00) and since it’s linen it’s not overly hot.

Lightweight Sweater
I chose a crochet sweater, but any lightweight sweater or crewneck sweatshirt makes a great summer layer. My exact sweater is from Abercrombie (in XS) but is very low in stock. This sweater is a similar option.

Rain Jacket
For those rainy summer days, this lightweight jacket will keep you dry, but won’t add a heavy layer. I wear this jacket in Petite XXS.
