Now that Memorial Day has come and gone, I’m officially in summer mode. Which means, I’m also in summer dress mode. You know I love a good pair of denim shorts, but I also love a pretty summer dress. When that dress just so happens to be chambray, a quintessential summer fabric, it’s a must in my book.
The Chambray Summer Dress
You can do a lot with a neutral like chambray through every season, but I just love it in the summer. It’s beautiful with white! Think red, white and blue, for your fourth of July celebrations. J.Crew Factory Chambray Dress
As cute as this dress is, I almost didn’t keep it. I’m not sure what happened to the petites at J.Crew Factory, but the collection is getting scrawny. It’s breaking my heart. So this dress doesn’t come in petite. I ordered the 00 and crossed my fingers. It’s a tad too big, but I decided I could make it work with a few nips and tucks, and suggestions from a friend.
Petite Fit Fixes
Being petite, I’m no stranger to a little pin here or there. The straps were too long, so I pinned the straps (which you may be able to tell) for a quick and temporary fix. However, I plan to have them taken up eventually. I also pinned the straps on this dress. The top in general is roomy, because girlfriend can’t fill it out. However, the extra room up top may be a good thing for someone better endowed. A friend of mine who has this same dress in gingham, talked me into keeping it with the suggestion of wearing a cardigan on top, and that works too! You can see it worn with a cardigan here. Not only does that hide my fit issues with this dress, it also makes it work appropriate. I actually prefer it with the cardigan more than without. Thanks Whitney!
