Dressing tonally is one of my favorite ways to look a little taller. It means wearing a monochromatic (same color) outfit or colors in the same color family, such as sage green and olive green. It not only gives a lengthening effect, but it also adds a little bit of polish. Here are a few tonal outfit ideas for fall.

Tonal Fall Outfits
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Green
I just love the Twirl skirt from Aritzia. It’s fully lined with a sheer overlay. The waist is stretchy, and the pleats are released at the bottom, making it extra “twirly.” This skirt starts at XXS, and I went with XS. Although I tend to be an XXS most places, I find Artizia to run small in general, so I go up a size in most of their things. I paired the skirt here with an olive cashmere sweater from Quince. The color I’m wearing is Moss. I’m wearing the sweater in XS here. It fits well overall, but I cuff the sleeves.

Navy
I recently found this navy pea coat at Banana Republic Factory. It’s a great fit and price, and the quality is excellent. It’s been some years since I’ve had a short pea coat in my closet, so it’s a welcome change! I’m wearing the coat in Petite XXS and find it to run true to size. I paired it with dark wash jeans and a navy sweater from Other Stories. I’ve purchased this sweater in a few colors over the years. I love the cropped fit and it comes in several colors. It’s not petite so I cuff the sleeves on this one.

Cream
I’ve been sharing this washable silk skirt from Quince for a few years. It is one of the only silk skirts I’ve found that is a good length for Petites. It is thin, so I recommend wearing shapewear shorts under it. I will also sometimes layer a slip on top of the shorts so the skirt doesn’t cling to it. I steam the wrinkles out, but it will also wrinkle some with wear. The coat is another excellent Banana Republic Factory find. The coat is fully lined and well-made. It has a great fit (true to size), and it’s under $150.

Tan
Call it camel, call it tan – it’s another one of my favorite neutrals. You can probably tell, but I’m not much on black. I’ll wear it but I look best in warmer colors, so I go for them instead. The sweater dress I’m wearing here is one from Aritzia last year. It’s cozy and warm, but it’s oversized. I didn’t do a good job of showing it in this post, but you can see it in a post from last year without the coat. I’m wearing it in XXS, and it’s still very oversized. The coat I’m wearing on top is the Daphne Topcoat from J.Crew, but it’s the coat from last season. This year’s coat has two buttons instead of one and is a slightly different color. The fit is the same, it’s true to size, and I’m wearing it in Petite 00/XXS.
