After I posted the ribbed sweater dress from Target the requests to see it styled multiple ways started coming in. So, today I’m sharing four ideas for layering that dress, but also almost any sleeveless dress can be layered the same way.

Ways to Layer a Sleeveless Dress
My Sizing: I’m 4’10” and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″ and 36″. My typical inseam is 24-25″. The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online.
Starting with the dress on its own. It has a beautiful fit in my true size and feels so well made, especially for its price point. It also comes in black which would be a great capsule piece.

With a Sweater Vest
Any top that covers the neckline of your dress makes a great top layer. I love the way this mock neck vest pairs with it. To wear this look I put the sweater on first, then pull it up to where I want it to hit at my waist, then belt the bottom band of the sweater and pull until you like the way it looks/cover the belt.

With a Button-Down Top
When I first saw this dress I immediately saw it layered over a button-down top. I went with white but you can choose a colored or printed option for more variety as well. To smooth out the top underneath, especially where the dress gets snug around the hips, I wear a half-slip or Spanx shorts.

With a Skirt
If you have a skirt that’s long enough to cover the length of your sleeveless dress you have another way to get more wear out of one item. I went with my favorite pleated skirt from Amazon for this outfit. I wear this skirt in Small and it fits me well with a stretchy comfortable waistband. (I’m wearing it in “dark gray” here.) For what it’s worth, the skirt washes well, and the pleats steam well (the skirt doesn’t lose its pleats when you steam it). You could also combine the layering from above (with a button-down) with this skirt if you wanted to.

With a Cropped Top
This little sweater has been going in and out of stock since summer. It makes for a pretty layer over a dress, but you can use any cropped top or sweater for this idea. Even some of the trendy cropped button-down tops would look great.

With a Blazer
A blazer or cardigan is an easy layering idea. I love how this particular combination is close in color, but there’s no need to stick to a monochromatic look.
