Outfits for Teachers: Wide Leg Pants

In this Outfits for Teachers post, I’m styling a comfortable pair of wide-leg pants five different ways for school. Although this series is dedicated to teachers, these outfits work well for most business casual dress codes!

Outfits for Teachers: Wide Leg Pants

My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.

Wide-leg trousers are trendy, but most of the pairs I’ve found only worked without hemming if I wore a heel. Heels aren’t all that practical for teachers or anyone who’s on their feet all day, so you can imagine I was really excited to find this pair from LOFT that doesn’t need a heel for this series. The pants have a petite-friendly 27.5″ inseam, and on top of that, they feel like you’re wearing a comfortable pair of yoga pants but still look polished enough for work. The pants are a stretchy pull-on style with a high 11″ rise, I find them to be true to size.

Long Blazer

In my original review of these pants, I mentioned that they’re a little tricky to tuck your tops into. So, I styled these outfits with layering options and tops that are slim enough to be worn tucked in without bulk. In the first outfit, I chose a short-sleeved scalloped cardigan with a slim fit. It’s easy to wear tucked in if you want to, but you definitely don’t have to tuck it in. The blazer has a slightly oversized fit by design but is petite and still well-proportioned.

Lady Cardigan

In this outfit, I paired a sleeveless sweater shell with a striped lady cardigan worn open. The cardigan doesn’t come in petite sizing but has a great fit in regular sizing. Even the sleeve length is perfect without any tucking or rolling.

Cropped Cardigan

In this outfit, I went for one of my favorite alpaca cardigans from Quince. This cardigan is a little bit oversized on me, and I have to cuff the sleeves, but I’ve mentioned before that it’s a perfect cozy balance. Although these pants are wide-leg, they have a slim fit through the hips and bottom, so I think a top that has a little bit of an oversized fit gives a nice balance.

Denim Jacket

A denim jacket always looks great with black pants. I chose an oversized option for an on-trend combination, but if oversized isn’t your favorite – this jacket from LOFT has a classic fit. My jacket comes with a belt that you can choose to wear or not and pockets on the side.

Cropped Sweater

A cropped sweater or top with a little volume is a nice balance with these ponte pants. My exact top is from Anthropologie. Although Anthropologie can be pricey, they offer a 20% discount for teachers! You can grab the discount in-store with your school ID or verify your school ID online here for the discount. I’m wearing the top here in XXS, and it fits me well overall. The arm holes have a large opening so you’ll need a camisole underneath of it.
