Wide-leg trousers continue to be a trendy choice. What was once a hard to find style for petites, with their continued popularity, this season there are more options available. I have a few wide-leg styles to review in this post with a petite-friendly fit. To be fair, most of these pants don’t work for me with flats, so you may not consider them truly no-hem, but I’ll be sharing the measurements for each one so you can compare and decide if they may work for you.
Wide-Leg Trousers Styling
Wide-leg trousers have a close fit at the waist and a loose wide leg. Depending on the brand, some styles fit close to the hips and others are loose and roomy (a little puffy). They often have a very high rise (11″ + being standard for most of the styles I’ve tried) and can be worn a little bit long and bunchy at the feet. Avoiding pants that are too long my entire life, I prefer to wear them streamlined with heels so I look a little bit taller. To note, there can be sizing variations between colors, so fit reviews and measurements given are only for the exact color I’m sharing. I take the inseam measurements from the size I have and note on the description, inseam measurements can go up with sizing.

Wide-Leg Trousers for Petites
My Sizing: I’m 4’10”, and my bust, waist, and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. My inseam is 25″ (the measurement from the inside of my leg to my ankle bone). The clothes shown are unaltered and show how they fit me right from the store. I list my sizing beside each item to help you compare when shopping online. When referencing my true size, that is often the smallest option available at a brand or petite xxs/00/24. I wear a size 5 shoe.
Abercrombie Sloan Trousers
- Rise: 11.5″
- Inseam: 28″ in 24 short
- Fit: true-to-size
The Sloan Trousers were the first pair of wide-leg pants I tried and loved. When these were first released I found them to run small in the waist, and went up a size. This season it seems they have corrected the sizing and they are now true-to-size. I’ve never been able to find these pants in my size in extra short so I’ve always opted for short. In short they have a 28″ inseam which works best for me with a 2″+ heel. Keep in mind when you compare rise and inseam measurements for trousers, the crotch seam sits lower on your frame than a pair of jeans so a 28″ inseam in trousers will fit differently than a 28″ inseam in jeans.

LOFT Versa Palazzo Pants
- Rise: 11.5″
- Inseam: 27″ inseam in 00 petite
- Fit: true-to-size
I think the Palazzo Pants from LOFT have a great fit. I can wear flats with these pants (with just a little bit of bunching). They have a stretchy waistband and lightweight comfortable fabric. These pants are roomier through the rise and legs than the Sloan pants so if you don’t love wide, these may not be for you. I had some mixed feedback about these pants, some loved them, and some felt they were too big. I find them to be true-to-size and am in the camp that loves them.

Aritzia Effortless Pants
- Rise: 11″
- Inseam: 28″ inseam in 0 shorter, 29.5″ inseam in 0 short
- Fit: size up
The Effortless Trousers are not the shortest option I have to share, but they do have the best fit through the hips and thighs. The leg is slimmer, still wide, but slimmer than the other pairs I have in this post. These pants are very well-made and the fabric is lovely. The shorter inseam that I’m wearing here is often out of stock, but it does come back around from time to time. I personally checked back often until I saw them restock. This inseam works well for me with a pair of heels.

Abercrombie Harper Trousers
- Rise: 11.5″
- Inseam: 28″ inseam in 00 short
- Fit: true-to-size
The Harper Trousers fit similarly to the Sloan Trousers. They have a true-to-size fit with a stretch waistband and wide leg. The difference is these pants are a single pleat and the Sloan Trousers are double pleated. To me, it makes the pants less puffy overall to lose a pleat.
