Sometimes blogging challenges you to try new things when it comes to your style and sometimes it causes you to have a little bit of an identity crisis. Do I really like this piece of clothing or am I just wearing it because it’s trendy? I’ve been reading quite a few blog posts lately from my fellow bloggers talking about this very fact. I’ve also been feeling the same way. My closet has quite a few things in it currently that I don’t love to wear and on most days I go for my old favorites; those basic, classic pieces. For fall, this is my classic outfit.
Classic Fall Outfit
Put on your dancing shoes, it’s legging season. When the air turns just the tiniest bit cooler, I put on my leggings and remember how very awesome they are. My very favorite thing to wear with my leggings are my classic riding boots. I’ve owned this particular pair of Sam Edelman Penny boots for about four years now. They were a great purchase! I have splurged on things and then let them sit in my closet, and felt extremely guilty over it. However, these boots are one of those purchases I’ve never regretted. When I first bought them, I was dying for a pair of Frye boots, but they were so out of my price range. I picked this pair instead and am so glad I did. Sure, they could use a little polishing, but four years old and worn very heavily every year, they still look great! They are still sold today and totally worth it.
Madewell Simple Crossbody Bag
Y’all know I love my big totes, but now that my littlest is getting older (and closer to being potty trained) I can get away with traveling without diapers! Woo! I ordered this simple crossbody bag from Madewell, it’s so classic and so well made. I opted for the monogram, which I love, but I didn’t expect it to be as large as it is. Since my initials are “BAA”, it’s borderline like, is that a monogram or you trying to say something about sheep? My husband totally made fun of it. Still love it, not caring.
Loft Ponte Leggings
Oh but what leggings are the best leggings? My favorite kind are ponte. They’re thick, so you don’t have to worry about them being see through. I have a pair from LOFT that I love! They come in petite, so thats a plus, always! This particular outfit includes the ponte knit bell sleeve top from Old Navy I talked about in my buying lately post, as well as the boyfriend cardigan I mentioned. I love this cardigan!
You can find me wearing this outfit just about any day. It takes me from t-ball, to the grocery store – living that mom life. What is your favorite outfit to wear?

I love classic outfits like this – I always end up defaulting back to the simple classic outfits. I think especially as a mum I don’t have a lot of time and energy to try trends and I just stick with things I know I love π
Thank you for the link up!
Hope you are having a wonderful week so far π

Totally agree this is the perfect fall outfit! Wish I had snagged that cardigan in that color…super cute. We finally got a little cooler air yesterday but still not sure I can pull out my tall boots yet. Hopefully soon I’ll be copying this look!
This type of outfit is pretty much my go-to during fall! I LOVE a good striped tee and that olive cardi is so cute!

Love those boots, I hoping to get similar, but I need a wide calf style. Thanks for hosting. x Jacqui

Easy peasy looks like this are Fall perfection. If you see all my latest posts I have mostly worn and chosen simple basics. I need some knee-high cognac boots badly. Love your bag too. I love Loft’s leggings too. I blogged an outfit with the dark gray pair, just on Monday. π
Your first paragraph was something I came to terms with this past year. When I first started fashion blogging, I wore things other blogger would wear. Then last spring I realized I have so many clothes I don’t really like or don’t feel “me” in that I donated them all. Would you believe I donated 8 garbage bags of clothes? Now whether it’s trending or not, I buy and wear only what I like and I feel comfortable in. LOVE your outfit. I agree about ponte knit leggings too. And that bag is just the cutest!
I love the yummy brown boots with your striped top. Welcome fall! Xo Jonet

I love going for classic pieces, especially when I don’t know what to wear. I love your boots! I’ve been eyeing that pair as a replacement for mine. Do they hold up well and are they comfy?
You can never go wrong with classic pieces–I find myself wearing my knee high boots and striped shirts year after year. I have similar pieces so I might just have to recreate this look–thanks for the inspiration!
Those boots – allll the heart eyes! I hear you on not wanting to fill up your closet with trendy pieces, and stick to the classics. This outfit is classic perfection <3

Cuteness! I feel you on the trendy versus true crisis. I have been debating about whether to keep my riding boots because they aren’t trendy per se, but I always wear them so much!

I love the olive green sweater with the tan boots and bag. Such a rich look!

They hold up really well! I also think they’re comfortable. I would say size up to wear with winter socks and all because they are a little narrow.
These boots come in a wide calf version too. π
This is such a great classic look. Most of my go-to fall outfits look like this too. π

Brooke, your outfit is a fall classic and I love it! My favorite fall looks are those that involve layers and especially long cardigans π
BTW, the thing about your initials is so funny

This is such a great classic fall look. I love the tote and think the initials are a fun part of it. You look gorgeous!

I love this entire look! The stripes with the olive green sweater look great, and THOSE BOOTS!! I have a link up on my blog on Friday. http://www.gingerphotog.com (Ginger’s Linkup) Hope you can visit!
I was so excited last week when it was cool enough for my
Leggings and boots, then it turned hot again! Boooo! Lol
Thanks Rachelle!
Haha yes!! Then when it comes to getting dressed I’m like nah, I’ll pass on that! lol
Thanks Carrie!
Thank you Helena!
I agree Mica! I’ve never been a trendy person, but tried more this summer to wear more trends. Now I feel like when I look at my closet I wasted a bunch of money on things I don’t love! I’m going back to my basics!
I was able to pull them out last week and was reminded how much I love them, but it turned humid and hot again this week! Back in the closet they went!
Thank you Kelly!
Aw thank you Amy!
You’re right Jodie!!
Lofts leggings are the best!! I really love the bag. I don’t buy expensive bags often, even though this one wasn’t crazy expensive, it was like a little treat to myself!
You’re so wise Amy! I’m going to do that from now on, I hate that I’ve wasted money on things that just aren’t “me”.
I especially love striped shirts, they can be worn so many ways!
Thanks Kate!
Thanks Ashley!
Thanks Elise!
I’m with you! I honestly wasn’t sure if I even wanted to put them on the blog because they aren’t necessarily trendy, but the reality is I wear them more than anything!
Thanks so much Cheryl!
You have awesome style Mary!
Do ittttt! Lol! Thanks Deena!
Thanks Rachael!
I love this outfit. You are right about the classic pieces and wearing what you love. I really have to pause before buying some things and ask myself if I’m buying it because I like it, or because everyone else has it. It’s an easy trap to fall into. If that’s the sweater from Old Navy, I bought the same one for myself and my daughter. It’s all around perfect. Your initials! I have to tell you that if you hadn’t pointed out the “BAA” I don’t know that I would have even thought about that. There’s the difference in a man and a woman. I saw a monogram and your silly husband saw a sheep. LOL! Happy Thursday cutie!
Such a cute outfit! Loving the stripes!

So cute! Love this simple fall style!
I love classic fall outfits! I just got out my tall boots yesterday, it was the first day it was cold enough. I love the monogrammed bag and the color of your cardi!

I can totally relate to what you’re saying about having things in your closet that you don’t necessarily love! I always struggle with what outfits to blog because so much of what I wear is kind of boring lol. I definitely feel like blogging pushes me too far sometimes and I’m trying to stay away from that! Love the leggings and need a good Ponte knit in my life. Also, I’d love to join your Pinterest group!
I think so too Ruth, if I listed to my husband I’d only wear old t-shirts, haha!
Thank you!
Thank you Caitlin!
I will stop by!! Thank you for sharing!
It is from Old Navy! It’s awesome isn’t it?! I know you share my love of cardigans! π
Thanks Samantha!
Thank you Erica!
Thank you Carrie! I need to polish them up a bit, but I’m so excited it’s boots season!
I would love to have you! I’ll send you in invite, let me know if you don’t see it come through! I also struggle with my wardrobe, it’s pretty basic and I also feel sometimes boring. But, it’s surprising sometimes the simplest outfits are the ones people love most!
Thank you shelbee!
Me too Cristina, especially cardigans!
This look is very cute! It’s definitely a classic look that I’d wear! π
xo, Chloe // https://funinthecloset.com/tokyo-japan/
I felt the same way about my blog. I was buying/wearing things because everyone else was or because it was the “it” piece. My closet was getting bigger, husband was getting annoyed, and I kept going back to the same pieces over and over again. So I took a hiatus and now I’m back and staying true to me!
Btw I love your classic Fall look. Mine is similar, except I’m in a sweater and blanket scarf!
XO- Beth
