I don’t believe in fashion rules or wearing something that’s trendy just because it’s trendy. Style varies so much between age groups and regions – I’m a believer in just wearing what you feel good in. I like to tuck my tops in, most of the time with a half tuck. But I’ve had countless messages from many of you telling me you don’t like to tuck your top in. Some of you don’t like the way it looks, and some just don’t feel comfortable that way – I hear you! For what it’s worth, I think almost all of my outfits that I tuck in the top, look just as good if you leave the top untucked. But, I’m here to help you, and sometimes it’s better to see it done than just imagine what it would look like – so I dedicated an entire to post to styling outfits with the top untucked for all of my friends out there who prefer their tops that way.
10 Untucked Outfits for Petites
My Sizing: I’m 4’10” around 105 lbs. My bust, waist and hip measurements are 32″, 24″, and 36″. I’m typically an XXS/XS, 00/0 and 24-25, and I wear a size 5 shoe.
Peplum Top
Some of the tops I chose specifically because I would always wear them untucked – they’re meant to be worn that way. This peplum top is one of those. It’s from Ann Taylor and just may be my new favorite top. I styled it for the post with a pair of cropped flare jeans and black pants, but I would also wear it with skinny jeans and shorts! You could even tuck it into a skirt for more wear. I’m wearing it in Petite XXS and the proportions are perfect. I’ve been finding a lot of well proportioned tops at Ann Taylor lately and I’m really appreciating that. My biggest advice when it comes to style in any way is fit. It doesn’t matter what it is, the better it fits, the more polished it’s going to look. Hence why I’ve dedicated my blog to finding that great fit for petite ladies like me!

Puff Sleeve Top
This is another top that’s meant to be untucked and looks great when you balance it with slim bottoms. They have it tucked in on the model, but it’s really too short to stay tucked in my opinion. I dressed it up a little both times, but I think shorts and sandals would work with it too. It’s also from Ann Taylor and I’m wearing in Petite XXS.

Floral Top
This top is also from LOFT and has a great fit. I’ve had a lot of requests to see and hear more about my accessories, so I’m delivering today with this new white bag. I bought this bag during the Tory Burch sale the other week and I love that you can adjust the strap to a shorter length. It’s hard to find crossbody bags that are short enough for petites – yet another thing that doesn’t always fit us short girls, but this one is a great option.

Sweatshirt
Y’all know how much love a sweatshirt and this one has cute sleeves. Just enough extra detail to make it seem like more than just a comfortable sweatshirt. I’ve been wearing it a lot lately and plan to keep on wearing it into the spring and summer with shorts. I’m wearing an XS.

Pleated Shoulder Tank Top
I’m most definitely not into padded shoulders coming back, but this tank top has pleats on the shoulder that are just so flattering! They give the tank top a slightly unique fit, while still being something that will be easy to throw on this summer. It’s another LOFT top, I’m wearing it in Petite XXS.

Babydoll Top
Babydoll tops are another one that are always untucked. I first showed this one in my spring color post. It looks great with shorts, like in that post, but also with jeans. It does have larger arm holes and I prefer to wear a top under it. I’m wearing it in XS.

At the end of the day, don’t worry about whether you should or shouldn’t tuck your shirt. I think most of the time, it looks great either way – just do what makes you feel the best!
