As promised on Monday’s post, I’m breaking down my all time favorite workout apps today. I’ve been working out at home for the last 7-8 years, consistently, and over those years, I’ve tried as many workouts as possible. Some I’ve loved, and some I’ve hated. Some that are too expensive, and some that you can’t believe you can get for free! What once were the days of popping in a DVD in the wee morning hours so you don’t disturb the rest of your family, is now on an app, for half the price – so the at-home workout game is cheaper and easier than ever before.
My Five Favorite Workout Apps
Tone It Up Studio
I’ll start with my most used app first – the Tone It Up Studio app.
I have loved the Tone It Up Girls for years! They have some of the best free workouts on YouTube and I just love their personalities. They make workouts fun, upbeat and of course easy to look at, with their tropical locations. They released their Studio app last year and you can bet I signed up right away. The app is $12.99 a month and includes a full library of workouts as well as a studio feature, where you sign up for classes at a set time.
The benefit of the studio feature is it follows their training schedule, so you hop on the app and you know exactly what workout to do that day, without having to choose for yourself. If you don’t want to follow a schedule, you can pick and choose from their library on demand. The app not only includes their workouts, but workouts from expert trainers that they love! I highly recommend the app and think the price is spot on.

Daily Burn
I remember seeing ads for Daily Burn for years before ever giving it a try. Their basic app is $14.99 a month and includes a vast array of workouts.
What I love most about the Daily Burn app is the amount of options. There are workouts from nearly every type of fitness style – Barre, Yoga, HIIT, Crossfit style, Weight Training – the list goes on. Just like the days of purchasing a DVD program, you can follow a complete program on Daily Burn or mix it up. Y’all know I love to mix it up! I’ve recently been doing Bob Harper’s Black Fire and it is KILLER! Like the type of workout you feel like you need a full blown nap after – and maybe an IV. I’m exaggerating, but it’s intense. Daily Burn is also very well priced for what you’re offered and I highly recommend it!
Nike Training Club
I stumbled upon this app years ago, when there weren’t as many apps on the market. It is totally free!!
There are many workouts and training styles, but this one isn’t my favorite. It’s pieced together video of the moves rather than a full follow along video, which I prefer. However, you can’t beat the fact that it’s free and the workouts are effective!
Popsugar Active
Another freebie! This app has a mixture of workouts from cardio, strength to yoga. For being a free app, the workouts are pretty good and easy to follow.
They are full length, which I love! I don’t love that it doesn’t have a calendar to follow, you do have the ability to schedule your workouts. However, I prefer to have a pre-set schedule so I’m not just randomly doing workouts.
Blogilates
This one is free too! However, if you want the calendar to follow you have to pay $.99.
This app streams her YouTube vidoes! There are also app exclusive videos, you can purchase for $.99 each. My favorite part about this app is the links to recipes, that is something that is lacking in the other apps.
The fitness world is always evolving. It’s becoming more and fun and more affordable to stay active these days, so what are you waiting for?! Do we share any of the same favorite apps?

These sound like really good apps! I should maybe look into something like this, I don’t really exercise much outside of walking the dog and running around after toddlers, haha!
Thank you for the link up!
Hope that you are having a good week so far! I’ve returned to work this week which was a bit of a shock after a month off over Christmas, ha!

Working out at home is how I’ve done it for the past several years too. LOVE the idea of an app to assist, why have I never thought of it before?
they make working out so easy nowadays, great round up.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing these, Brooke!
This is great! I’m usually just using Youtube if I’m doing at home workouts but if I go to the gym and need a little inspo these apps are great! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston
I love this post! I have a membership to Orange Theory but only for 2x a week. So I need some other options like this on the other days!

I hope you find one your love! They’re all a lot of fun!
I’m a YouTube girl too! I love how easy the apps make accessing the workouts!
Thanks for reading Carrie!
Thanks Rachelle!
I only recently started getting into apps after the tone it up girls released theirs. I was like this is so easy!!!
Both of those are great exercise for sure!
Thanks for linking!
I was just thinking that I needed to find another resource fro workouts because my gym classes are just too packed right now. These are great apps, and I cannot wait to check them all out.

Peaches In A Pod
Working out is always my nemesis–I don’t enjoy it, and I’m not one of those people who can just go on a run (only if someone is chasing me with a weapon…ha!). I used to do Jazzercise and loved it, because I need structure and a class-like environment, and for it to NOT be boring 🙂 I never even thought about using an app on my phone! What planet have I been living on? Once I’m ready to make a commitment to working out I’m going to try one of these–thanks for sharing!
I’m a big fan of apps for fitness. I use Run Keeper and Couch to 5K and My Fitness Pal and more!

These all sounds great. Though I must admit I am terrible about working out.

Straight A Style
I’ve never tried a workout app…what a great idea. I’ll have to start with the free ones, to make sure I’d use it.

Awesome round up! I’ve been wanting to try Tone it Up Studio, and love the Yoga Studio app which is great for beginners or those more advanced in their practice <3

I love working out at home, saves me so much drive time! I haven’t done workout apps before, I need to check some of these out. I did just buy Cathe’s 12 Week workout program and I’m in week 2!! I’ll have to check some of these out after I finish it! I love variety!

These are great ideas to have some workout apps! Thanks for sharing your favs!
I really need this! Because of all of our snow days, attending the gym has been a hassle. Can’t wait to try some of these workout apps

These Apps sound great, definitely have to check them out once I recover from my head injury.

Oh ouch!! Glad you’re recovering!
Hope you find one you like!
You’re welcome!
I haven’t heard of that one! Let me know how you like it!
I really love their app! So many fun workouts.
There are so many out there! Makes it easy to workout anywhere.
Yeah! Great idea!
You look fabulous without working out! I’m jealous 😀
I used to use run keeper a lot when I trained for a half marathon, loved it! I also used my fitness pal when I tracked calories and loved it too!
I never enjoyed it either and growing up wasn’t an active kids, like with sports or anything. It took a lot of trial and error to find things I enjoyed!
Hope you love one!
Interesting post Brooke, I must ask, is there a free App you’d recommend before committing to a paid one ?
I’ve only tried the Nike Training App which I did like, but I found it hard to watch the videos on my phone and do the moves at the same time! I’m using Aaptiv right now which is great for me because it’s audio only! It’s like having a trainer in your ear telling you what to do!
xo Jules
These are some great work out apps and a lot affordable than a gym membership! They definitely make working out at home easier especially since the work out is planned out for you and since it’s been so cold.

These apps sounds quite useful. I’m a competitive runner so my coach gives me workouts but if i were working out on my own i would totally use some of these apps.

I am such a fan of workup apps and you’ve included some of my favorites here. There are a few that are new to me as well, I can’t wait to check them out!
Thank you! I always work out at home, and I get bored easily, so I love new ideas. One of my favorites is Fitness Blender and they’re free – although I’m not sure if it’s an app or just a website. But really good!
those look like some great apps!!!!
This post has perfect timing! I’ve been looking into workout apps, which I plan to start once I recover from having the twins. Have you ever tried the Sweat App? That’s the one I was thinking about starting with, but I also want to try the Love Your Beautiful Body App
Carly at A Modern Mom Blog
I’ve never used an app for a workout before, but it looks so much easier than setting up my computer with a YouTube video! Thanks for the suggestions!
Meg, Borrowed Heaven
I have yet to migrate to the workout apps, but I have been thinking about trying Aaptiv once I am able to work out again. I did BBG (before I got hurt) and most people use the app, but I use the printouts. I am definitely going to try the free ones you mentioned!

I love that there are so many apps out there and so many of them free to help motivate and get you healthy!
http://www.mylittlenest.org
I think the best free apps are Blogilates (if you like Pilates) and popsugar if you want a nice mix of things! The daily burn also has a free 30 day trial.
I haven’t heard of that, but it sounds awesome!
Yeah! I love being able to workout wherever, whenever!
That’s awesome!!
I hope you love them!
I’ve actually never heard of that! I love to try new things too, so I’ll have to check that out!
I haven’t heard of either of those, but I’m sure they’re great! There are so many good ones out there now, makes it easier to fit a workout in, especially with babies in tow!
I only started doing it in the last few months. I used to always use my computer and pull up YouTube, but now I feel so free, not stuck in my office. Lol!
The comments here are the first I’ve heard it aaptiv, it sounds great! I think I’ll look into that too!
The list goes on too, so many good ones!
