I remember on our very first date, my husband and I saw, “The Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants.” Of course at 17 you don’t care if the boy who wants to take you on a date wants to sit through a chick flick or not, but the fact that he watched the entire thing without a complaint, made him a keeper pretty early on. He so graciously sat through the tale of a group of teenage best friends who were going their separate ways for the summer. They went out shopping before they all headed off for their summer adventures and stumbled upon a pair of pants that were “magical”. They were magical because although each of the girls were totally different shapes and sizes, the same pair of pants fit them all perfectly. So they made a pact, to never wash them, and to each wear them for a set amount of time that summer. The story goes that when each girl wore the pants, something really special happened to her. They were magical after all.
We’re not 17 and not parting ways for the summer, but my best friend and I stumbled upon our own magical maxi dress. Not because it’s actually magical, but the same dress fits two very different girls perfectly, so in that respect, it’s spectacular.
The Sisterhood of The Magical Maxi Dress
I’ve talked about Ashley on the blog before, she’s been my very best friend since high school. You may remember my post about her bachelorette party last year. To give you an idea of our size difference, I’m 4’10”, she is 5’6″. I won’t get into weight because who wants to talk about weight, but by height alone, we’re very different. She is also very well endowed up top, but I am a totally different story.
It all started with her hunt for a similar dress to my blue floral maxi I shared a few weeks ago. She has always loved that dress, and almost ordered it from Amazon a few weeks ago, but by the size chart it seemed like she would need a size small. I told her I wore the small, and she assumed there was no way we would wear the same size. She wanted the dress for a trip she was taking the next week and decided to just not take the risk so soon before the trip, and never ordered the dress.
Then Pink Blush sent me this maxi dress (c/o), which is nearly identical in fabric and fit to my other blue maxi dress. It got my wheels a turning. I thought, why not let her try this dress and see if we truly would wear the same size in it. Turns out, we could! Aside from the obvious reality that this dress is a good two feet too long for me, it really is a great fit for both of us. The dress is very soft and stretchy, so even though it hugged me well, it also fit her well. She said she felt like it still had some room to go up top. This maxi is just as comfy as my floral maxi, and the other maxi dresses I own from Pink Blush. You just can’t beat a comfy maxi dress now can you?
I ended up letting her keep the dress, because she wanted a floral maxi of her own, and what are friends for? Plus, she helped me with this post and even gave ol’ B Lee a little loving when she came over to the take the pictures. There are no front porch pictures allowed at my house without the B in them.
There aren’t any magical stories to tell about the times we wore this dress, but for two friends to finally share something, who have never been able to share clothes before, that’s a little magic in and of itself.
